Leather biker jacket - brand and sizing help (Vinted)

I'm thinking of buying a leather biker jacket on Vinted as I can't afford a brand new one right now. Does anyone have recommendations for brands I should look out for - including those to avoid. Also any advice on sizing? I'm planning on going for a classic style, rather than oversized, so is it best to size up to make sure I can still get a jumper underneath for example?

Oooo difficult. Biker jackets are one of the things I would always advise trying in where possible. I'd only use Vinted to buy one where I was already confident of the fit.

That said, most people wear their bikers open rather than zipped up so there is usually a bit of wiggle room when it comes to chest size. It's more where they fall on the waist/hip that makes them look right or wrong.

The only thing I can tell you with any certainty is that All Saints come up small.

Thank you. Maybe I should see if I can get to the shops and try some on so I have a better idea of different fits.

I'm also only 5ft2 so where they hit on the waist/hip is going to be another issue I hadn't factored in. Hmmm.

I'm only an inch taller than you and I need one that sits on my waist/ top of hips because anything that hits on the mid hip makes me look boxy, which I can't afford with the double whammy of also being tubby!

Also I find bikers jackets with smaller lapels more flattering because I have big boobs, so less stuff flapping around my norms is always preferable!

Good luck - I've had some great finds on Vinted

So I've got my eye on three - one from River Island (on the wardrobe doors), one from Mint Velvet (on the mannequin) and one from French Connection (on the back of the door).

The Mint Velvet one hasn't been very well presented/photographed but I think it's likely to be good quality - although can't tell if the lapels are totally misshapen. Plus it's 3x as much as the other two!

I like the detailing on the MV one and it looks to be well proportioned. Not sure about the second one.

bookish83 · 08/02/2023 17:05

Ask for the length measurements to give you an idea of where it could sit at the waist. Definitely agree, being short if it is too long it makes you look square!

The MV looks to be the nicest leather but I would ask for more pictures to see the lapel etc

Nolosomi · 08/02/2023 17:05

You need to ask the seller for measurements. Bust straight across, jacket length nape to hem, arm length and shoulders seam to seam. Then measure against a jacket you already have that fits you. I think there’s nothing worse than a leather jacket where the sleeve seam on the shoulder doesn’t sit where it should. I’m broad shouldered so I have to be really careful about this.

The FC one is likely to be nice too.

Some cheaper high street brands would not use nice leather. I would personally not buy the RI one for that reason

Notjusta · 08/02/2023 17:19

Oh thanks all. I'll contact the sellers for more info. I really like the FC one - I like that it's got some detailing but is quite 'neat' as well which I think works well for me being short.

I have a real one (as in suitable for riding motorcycles in with protection built in) and the sizing is so off, had to buy 3 sizes up. It's the same style as these but really strong leather
