Is this a party dress or ok for work event?

I love this dress but I'm not sure if it's too dressy for a work event. I will have to wear it during the day in the office before the event and I don't want to look like I am heading straight off for cocktails after! The event itself is a product launch and I am there as a guest but will probably be helping handing out drinks, hobnobbing etc. The men are expected to wear suits and ties (there has been no mention of what the women are supposed to wear!). I would be wearing black tights and shoe boots with it.

Yea even a smart blouse, trousers and the loafers would be much better than this dress. You will really stand out beside the suits. It’s just not an appropriate dress for the occasion.

A smart blouse, trousers and loafers risks the OP being mistaken for waiting staff.

As for standing out from the suits - a bland, woman's trouser suit won't stand out from the wallpaper, let alone anyone else. Even before lockdown the business trouser suit was on its way out and it certainly hasn't had a comeback.

I phrased that badly. I meant the dress would totally stand out from the suits in a negative way, as it’s not work appropriate.
Trouser suits are absolutely everywhere. They are in. I can’t take it seriously that you think they are out. Direct opposite.

Do let us know how the dress looks when you get it, OP. I am quite curious after the discussion on this thread!

What's wrong with standing out from the array of identical suits ? The black and gold dress is fine and perfectly acceptable for a straight from work event.

Goodness knows where you are - I'm in one of the major cities in the UK and haven't seen anyone in a trouser suit at work in yonks.

Standing out in a negative way as she will look like she is in a frumpy party dress whilst they are dressed professionally.
They are in all the women’s shops across all the major cities of the UK at the moment. Not sure what kind of office you are in or how you have missed them. Also trouser suits are increasingly being worn outside the workplace as well, it’s partly due to the ongoing ‘90s revival in fashion

I think it’s fine. The men are in suits not dinner jackets so you don’t want to go overboard. The men I work with wear suits on ordinary days. It probably means don’t come in jeans/trainers/hoodies.

I think the dress is lovely, but be warned, I ordered it and it sent glitter absolutely everywhere so I sent it back - not sure how it would wash, a few reviews said the same. I got the Jewel Blooms version instead and love it, the fabric is really nice. Also the model in the one you linked too is wearing the 'long' version, I ordered the 'regular' length, which I think the model in this link is wearing and it's above the knee, didn't seem frumpy to me at all but maybe I'm an unstylish frump 💁

I'm a solicitor - posh, non legal aid practice.

The OP's dress is perfectly fine for a straight from work evening do.

Fat Face stuff just makes people look like they’ve given up and gone to live on a farm in 1800. If the men are wearing suits it needs to be something more like this evening professional, flattering but without looking like you’ve raided your Christmas wardrobe, not showing too much flesh, yet still comfortable. And it’s easily dressed up or down.

This is gorgeous

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/02/2023 06:42

Yes, mine is shorter than in the picture. Also, I sized down. I am really pleased with it. So far I’ve worn it to the pub with chunky boots and a leather jacket and to a Michelin star restaurant with heeled ankle boots. Felt good in both.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/02/2023 07:07

My dress killed the thread! 😂🤪

Snowpixi · 26/02/2023 19:01

Op I’m so sorry I don’t think this is the equivalent of a suit and tie!

Snowpixi · 26/02/2023 19:03

If the men are asked to wear suit ties and jackets then this is not the equivalent dress.

MrsPetty · 27/02/2023 10:23

I just ordered one too. I’d wear it to work.
