Is this a party dress or ok for work event?

I love this dress but I'm not sure if it's too dressy for a work event. I will have to wear it during the day in the office before the event and I don't want to look like I am heading straight off for cocktails after! The event itself is a product launch and I am there as a guest but will probably be helping handing out drinks, hobnobbing etc. The men are expected to wear suits and ties (there has been no mention of what the women are supposed to wear!). I would be wearing black tights and shoe boots with it.

I'd go for something a bit more like this OP.

Where is the pink/red outfit from in the last pic please? I want!

NatashaDancing · 07/02/2023 21:17

Is this the navy dress some are seeing?

www.fatface.com/women/clothing/dresses/francis-daisy-midi-dress/978125.html?dwvar_978125_color=navy&cgid=women-clothing-dresses-and-skirts#start=3

If it is it's a nice dress too. It could easily be worn to work with shoes and jewellery and through to a straight from work event.

I see a black and bronze dress and would say it’s very appropriate for what you describe. Def needs black opaque tights with it.
I wouldn’t be dressing up in a tight dress and heals to flog whatever for my employer. It’s fine if that’s what you choose but no woman should feel that is required

I don't like the dress but it's just personal preference. I'd probably go for either something shorter with bare legs or knee length and fitted, again with bare legs. If I wanted to cover my legs I'd wear a jumpsuit or wide leg trousers and a nice satin shirt. I wouldn't wear tights to a dressy event but again it's personal preference.

Shorter? That dress is pretty short. You couldn’t really go shorter for a work event. You can’t have bare legs, surely.

God no. Not a fan of Fat Face but the only evening event this would be suitable for would be a low key bbq at a friends

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2023 21:29

Bare legs in February? Doesn’t sound terribly classy.

Teeshirt · 07/02/2023 21:29

I agree that the navy floral wouldn’t be right at all.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2023 21:30

And no to black trousers and a white shirt imo.

30flirtyandthrivingx · 07/02/2023 21:31

@Teeshirt That dress is knee length though, so not short IMO. I think it's because I live in jeans so when I get the opportunity to dress up slightly I might go a bit OTT 😂

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2023 21:31

Navy one is definitely a going to the shops dress.

30flirtyandthrivingx · 07/02/2023 21:37

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I've got the legs to pull it off 😉

Oh I don't know, sorry! I just googled wide leg trouser outfits or something. Will see if I can find it again...

Oh, it’s slightly longer than I remembered. One photo makes it look well above knee length. Still no to bare legs, though -very déclassé.

Fat Face stuff just makes people look like they’ve given up and gone to live on a farm in 1800. If the men are wearing suits it needs to be something more like this evening professional, flattering but without looking like you’ve raided your Christmas wardrobe, not showing too much flesh, yet still comfortable. And it’s easily dressed up or down.

Benjispruce4 · 07/02/2023 22:02

It’s a very every day dress. Have you posted the right photo? Was expecting an evening dress.

Nope only a link to this random article I couldn't navigate through stylecaster.com/ways-to-wear-wide-leg-pants-in-winter/

That's awful.

OP hasn't clarified exactly what the venue/event but men wearing suits at a straight from work event doesn't mean women have to glam up.

Bare legs at an after work event for a product launch in February is 100% no.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2023 22:22

However good one’s legs are, I think bare legs in February are just wrong.

I don’t like that jumpsuit much.

GetOffMyDoorJack · 07/02/2023 22:40

Blimey - what a rollercoaster of a thread! Thank you for your answers, yes it is a black and gold dress I was linking to but I'm intrigued as to what everyone else was seeing earlier. Anyway, I have ordered it because I like it, it won't be delivered for a week or so but I will report back when I have received it and let you know how it looks on! I will hit the shops at the weekend for something more appropriate. As I say, I live in jeans so it's been good to get some views on what I should be wearing.

Op, I saw the black and gold dress and still think it's not right for your event. It's a nice everyday dress, but too casual for a work thing. Let us know what you find!

Vitriolinsanity · 07/02/2023 22:42

I'm convinced I had that dress from Fat Face in 1995.it was my "Saturday Night round at Rachel's [change name depending on who's turn] for dinner".

Toddlingturtle · 07/02/2023 22:48

The black and gold dress would be totally fine. The blue one I saw first totally not fine

Catingle · 07/02/2023 23:02

I’ve just read half this thread shocked that people are considering it totally normal to take their kids to soft play, do the gardening and take to a trip to the supermarket in sparkly gold patterned dresses.😂

OP I like the black and gold dress and think it works for your purposes.

Benjispruce4 · 08/02/2023 06:44

I saw a navy and white floral, jersey T shirt dress just above the knee. Very every day.
