First night out in 5 years...

Will I look dated in black skinny jeans?

I do have some cropped 501s in washed black and denim but I'm finding them difficult to style. The black skinnies seem the easiest option.

I'm going out for food followed by a few bars.

No, black skinnies are classic and I don't think you will look outdated. Especially if you style them with some more modern pieces too.

Jeans and a nice top is still perfectly acceptable!

Noone's going to bat an eyelid at you wearing skinnier & some people still are of course.

You ask will you look dated & the short answer is you will a bit but it so depends on what importance you place on stuff like this?

You haven't been out in 5 years, so I imagine you will be more focused on enjoying tye company & food / drinks that worrying about what you're wearing.

Wear something you are comfortable in as you REALLY don't want to ruin your night feeling uncomfortable in some outfit you're not used to!

I travel a lot with work & was v recently in Berlin & I can't remember seeing anyone in skinny jeans. It was mostly wide leg/ boyfriend / mom / straight leg jeans & mostly blue. Or sports leggings. Or very eclectic vintage stuff - fur coats over sportrs shorts with leggings underneath- not my style but I saw variations on this a couple of times.

It also depends on what your group wears- if jeans &, a top is standard then it's perfectly fine. Hope you have a great night out

Despite what 75% of people say, skinny jeans of all types are still very much being worn ( in London, where I am, anyway.)

Are you going to be standing up or sitting down for the majority of the evening? If sitting, choose something on your top half that is interesting- or with a plain top, statement jewellery etc. if standing, choose an outfit that is streamlined and stylish with great shoes.

I think it depends on where you live and what’s going on the top half. It’s gone much more low key where I am so I would feel weird in a sparkly top and heels but that might not be the case where you are. I’m more a wide leg trouser person myself and definitely if I’m eating.

I think I've just lost so much confidence since having children. Everything I put on just doesn't look right. At the moment I spend my days in active leggings and baggy sweatshirts.

And shoes? What shoes! I don't want to wear heels.
