I have a very big head

I’m talking enormous :( And I want a summer hat like a fedora. I can’t find one in regular shops (way too big for that) and a google for xl hats hasn’t found anything. Last option is to have one made but that is ££. Anyone know a shop that makes big headed people nice hats?

Big head here.

Have a look at hatsandcaps(.)co.uk

EVHead · 05/02/2023 15:13

M&S do fedoras in different sizes - I also have a big head although I wouldn’t call it enormous. I got a summer hat from M&S a few years ago and it’s perfect.

Maybe look at men’s ones? You might get more choice that way.

BlueHexagon · 05/02/2023 15:13

What size do you need? My head is pretty massive (59cm) and I've found Village Hats quite often do large enough. this would just about fit, for example

ramanw · 05/02/2023 15:13

All I can say is that I'm slightly jealous.

I have got such a tiny head and I have to wear hats for kids!!

BlueHexagon · 05/02/2023 15:14

Although my most recent summer hat was an M&S men's panama, as @EVHead suggests...

SirVixofVixHall · 05/02/2023 15:17

I have an average size head I think, but I get headaches with any sort of tight hat. I usually unpick the inner grosgrain band and gently stretch out a hat to make them more comfortable.
Agree with pps that men’s hats are larger.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 05/02/2023 15:19

Yep I've got my father's huge head. Thanks Dad. Can't even get a Christmas cracker crown round it, while my mum has such a peanut head hers slips straight off and sits round her neck. I must have been a joy to birth!

I don't wear hats on the basis that I'd just look ridiculous.

UnattendedPotato · 05/02/2023 15:31

Have a look at Tilley. Expensive but they have lifetime replacement guarantee.

Badger1970 · 05/02/2023 15:32

Someone had made a thread about this a while back, and I got one from Village Hats. I absolutely love it, it's a proper summer boater hat and wore it all summer. It's honestly the first hat I've bought that ever fit my head!

LightDrizzle · 05/02/2023 15:36

Christie’s do large sizes in lots of styles.

Itisbetter · 05/02/2023 15:38

Buy one you like and stretch it. You could even cut it under the band. Steam it and then stretch it.

WashAsDelicates · 05/02/2023 15:39

Tilley Hats. They are excellent and come in many sizes. I have a couple, and I have also claimed on their lifetime replacement when one of mine wore out. They honoured their promise without a murmur. Yes, they are relatively expensive, but much cheaper than having to buy a new hat every year because last year's stretched or wore out.

CMOTDibbler · 05/02/2023 15:43

My head is 62cm round, and buying ladies hats is impossible. But mens fedoras come in my size and then I can add a nice hat pin if I want. For nicer hats I go to a local milliner (yes this sounds wanky but she is incredible) and she can make hats to size or expand them.
My sun hat is Tilley and its not glamourous but it really does do the job

TreesAtSea · 05/02/2023 15:51

Try M&S men's range. I take a 58cm size which usually equals their large ones. They also do an extra large.

Hubcapdiamondstarhalo · 05/02/2023 16:03

Another big head here. I also have neuralgia on my forehead, and can't have a tight headband or it will flare up. I've been looking for years for a good wide brimmed ladies' sunhat, as I don't suit a fedora.
There are some very nice hats on Pachacuti , but they are very pricey. They are searchable by size. I have been tempted, but decided to wait till this spring before jumping in. Thinking now of getting a Tilley after reading this thread.

59cm isn't particularly large.

I'm a 62 or 63cm hat size. I struggle to find safety helmets and stuff to fit nevermind sun hats, caps or dress hats. It is shit, I basically just don't wear hats apart from my riding helmet, and that leaves a red mark round my head

EloiseBridgerton · 05/02/2023 17:34

I’m 63cm I think ..at a squeeze. Lots of fabulous suggestions here thank you! Mands aren’t big enough and I’ve tried mens but not at some of the places mentioned so will have a look. DH has a Tilley and also an enormous head, so will check them out to see if they do any different styles. Thank you all!

And…totally meant panoma not fedora!

Just measured my head again ;-) and it's just over 60cm not 58cm. The m&s men's large fits that okay, although mine is a canvas sun hat. So their extra large may be suitable.

Lunabear89 · 03/07/2023 21:30

@JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon I've just brought DH a bucket hat from Big Bear Headwear. He's got a big head and has always struggled to find a hat.
They aren't cheap but the hat looks nice, is good quality and made from recycled ocean plastic (which is a nice touch). They say they fit from a 60cm to a 66cm head. Pretty big!

Maybe try there if you're struggling to find a hat that fits as they do baseball caps as well.
