How do I get Invisalign retainers properly clean?

I've had the Vivera retainers for a couple of months post-Invisalign now, but even though I soak them in Retainer Brite after each wear, they have gone slightly cloudy and developed a white residue that I have to scrape off. I've tried using a toothbrush on this (but obv don't want to scratch them) and tried white vinegar too but nothing gets rid of the residue.

Any idea what would get it off? My next step is one of those ultrasonic cleaning pods but they are on the pricey side and may just be a marketing gimmick anyway.

I should add that I do live in a hard water area and have to descale kettle and shower head every now and then. But i can hardly use that same descaler on my retainers!

I use denture cleaner! Soak them whenever I’m not wearing them and then after I brush my teeth to put them back in, I don’t rinse the toothbrush properly and use that to give them a little scrub.

I've had mine 3 years and not found anything that works. Mine are yellow and covered in white residue. Dentist said it's not a problem.

When I got mine I was told to give them a little wash with hand soap once a week. Sounds strange, but it gets rids of any discolouration or residue build up, and no, they don’t taste of soap afterwards!

Denture cleaning tablets and a stiff denture cleaning brush.

You can soak them in diluted hydrogen peroxide every so often too.

Forgot to add, I also give them a quick water wash with a soft toothbrush every morning, and use that with the soapy wash every week too.

Oh I might try that @Nyasia. I'd thought of trying dishwashing liquid too.

@fairgame84 I wouldn't mind that once it gets to the stage where I'm only wearing the retainers at night but my dentist told me to continue to wear them full-time for a few months and it's not an attractive look during the day!
