Clothes Steamer

Not a classic S&B thread I know, but I do think looking after your clothes is a style issue!

I don't have an iron and I hate ironing, but I have recently started wearing more button-down shirts, some which look a bit creased, and linen dresses (ditto). So I'm wondering about investing in a steamer - I like that you could just hang your clothes on a hanger and go over them quick(ishly)

Any recommendations? Have you found a steamer to be a good alternative to ironing?

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for clothes steamer recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best clothes steamers page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful.

I have one. It’s not as good as ironing but it does a passable job and that’s enough for me! Mine is quite old but at the time I just went by Amazon reviews and spent no more than about £25. It’s Swan

I’ve got a steam iron. Like this one. Its much better than a regular iron if you want to use it like a traditional iron (i.e with a board) so it’s great for anything with deep creases, but usually I just wave it over clothes on a hanger quickly without having to get the board out.

Yeah I've got a cheap steamer for stuff like you mention, I never use a regular iron. It's ok but I would prefer it to be cordless.

I got this on Amazon a few years ago and it's good for the price. I use it to give clothes a once over if they're too creased or for selling online. Not as great on 100% cotton or linen but I haven't had to bring out the iron since I've had it!
