Birkenstocks Boston - discuss!

Can they be worn out of the house? I love the look of them and really want a pair, I see them everywhere online being worn indoors and outdoors. But I’ve never actually seen anyone wearing them outside where I live (London) and I don’t want to spend ££ so much on just essentially slippers … unless someone can convince me that they’re that comfortable and that worth it?!

Lots of people wear them in the summer along with the other styles

I only wear mine indoors now though but used to wear my Madrids outside all summer long

I'd still wear them outside now but I get aches and pains

Love them! I have black leather ones, tan suede ones, and DP got me the shearling lined slippers at Christmas. I wear them outdoors in summer with mom/barrel jeans or midi dresses and skirts. At this time of year they would be a disaster (Scotland) outdoors. I see lots of people on TikTok wearing them out and about at the moment but I think they must be nipping from car to bar type lifestyle!

I have plantar fasciitis and find them very, very comfortable.

I love mine… great in Spring or Autumn.
I wish I was game to wear in winter with thick patterned socks!

ClarificationNeeded · 02/02/2023 07:41

I wore mine outside but they kept falling off for some reason. Birkenstocks are the only thing I wear all summer so not sure what I was doing wrong with the Bostons Confused

I have lovely wool ones, only used inside the house in winter, but they have gone through at the toes on both feet. Just after 2 winter's use as slippers : ( not good value.

I have the vegan ones, and wear them outside the house (more in the spring/summer/autumn, but still in the winter if I’m just walking the 2 minutes to the shops and it’s not raining). I see plenty of people wearing them out too. Surprised you don’t see people wearing them in London!

crispinglovershighkick · 02/02/2023 18:45

I love them and wish they did the ones with the back strap (Tokio?) in more colours.
I was in a coffee shop in Manhattan and a young woman in a ponytail came in wearing joggers, a t-shirt and taupe suede Bostons with white socks. It was an effortlessly cool casual look which I absolutely cannot pull off without looking like I just got out of bed, but I bought a pair anyway.
I love Birks and since I had plantar fasciitis I need arch support all the time so they're worth it for me. And I'm a big fan of that clunky orthopaedic look.

Avid Boston lover here. I have the khaki suede shearling ones bought about 3 years ago. A bit of the shearling worn off after one wear. I've worn them with and without socks outside. Previously, I had the standard black leather ones and then the grey felt ones. I've been coveting the oiled leather brown ones, but cannot muster paying for £130 for them. They used to be a lot cheaper before the last two years, the trend for them had shot up!

I’ve had my old wool pair for 10 years and mostly worn them as slippers but they’ve finally lost the tread on the sole. I’ve ordered a new pair and plan to wear them out as well as in- I’ve seen people wear them to yoga classes etc.

CalmDownBoris72 · 04/02/2023 22:43

@Nachtvlinder I was amazed at how expensive they are now, my old ones were max £50.

Florissant · 04/02/2023 22:56

I like them but they are beyond my budget, alas.

Nachtvlinder · 07/02/2023 22:42

@CalmDownBoris72 There is a specialist cobbler that turns old Birkies to new like replacing the soles and buckle, and buffs up the leather. I can't remember who did them, but I'm sure you can find out. Well worth doshing out on another pair.

@Florissant My Boston khaki suede shearling was a bargain on Amazon at £55 and Arizona were also £55 bought in 2019/20.

Wear mine all year round, with dresses in summer and thick socks in winter- wore them to the office today with barrel leg trousers.
They come up VERY wide - I'm usually wide fitting and had to get narrow ones.
