Blonde to brunette

has anyone done this recently?

I’m booked in with an excellent colourist and I am terrified, but I just can’t maintain the blonde at the moment.

I’ve always wanted to be blonde since I was a child. So I went blonde from the moment I got my first payslip. To me it is my youth, the colour of my twenties. I love having a big halo of golden coloured hair.

But the processing isn’t good for it. To get my ideal colour it needs a t section and a toner every 6 weeks. It’s hundreds a year in the full heads and the half heads in between. We’re going through a lean patch money-wise right now (temporarily, thankfully) and it just feels like such a frivolity.

I have tried to compromise with ombre and balayage but it just looks so ‘trendy’ at best, and scruffy at worst. I hate having a blonde bun and dark roots.

So I’m going dark. My natural colour is a dark, cool brown.

Has anyone done a change like this recently? How did you feel about it?

I go backwards and forwards between light and dark so haven’t had one big change but when I go dark I always think my hair looks a lot healthier and it’s nicer not to have roots showing, it feels more expensive even if it’s just a box dye. You then start noticing everyone else’s bad highlights.

I can remember working in an office, years ago, with mostly female workers and they were all blonde. I never experienced anything like you describe. In fact I quite liked being a bit different and being a natural brunette and I just wouldn’t suit blonde so wouldn’t even bother.

I can’t imagine having friends that made more than a passing reference to their hair colour, especially at that age. They definitely need to go back to finding some more interesting hobbies.

I did it years ago, I don’t really enjoy the hairdressers, it was fine. The condition improved a lot.

You'll need to adjust make up though. What suits as a blonde doesn’t always suit as a brunette.

Its only hair, you can go back to blonde later.

I was bleach blonde - almost white - and went to a chocolate brunette
I loved it!
The upkeep was so much easier; my hair condition improved so much!
People were shocked at first; but after a few weeks everyone says they prefer the brunette over the blonde - which they were trying to put me off doing because they couldn't imagine it lol

I have added in some red into the brown for the summer currently just to give it a slight change but I won't be blonde anytime soon in the future

For me natural hair colour looks best on most people - go for it OP.
