Are there any ankle boot type footwear with a bit of a heel that strike the right balance between smart and casual for occasional trips to the office?

Just that, really. I love a heel, nothing too high particularly, but want to be comfy too — before the pandemic comfort didn’t seem to be a factor for me and I quite happily marched around offices in pointy ankle boots or even ‘proper’ heels for hours

We generally WfH but went into the office today and needed to look semi-smart so wore jeans and a shirt and some boots I used to really favour… Needless to say, I spent a fair whack of the day questioning my pre-2020 style choices! Trouble is, I’m still a sucker for a heel and like to look elegant.

Does such mythical footwear exist, o wise ones?

M&S ankle boots. Choice of heel heights and widths and they stand up to a lot of use. My winter work shoes of choice for 10 years pre-covid (more WFH now).

Chelsea boots are pretty good at being comfortable and smart casual.

I've got three pairs of ankle boots (heel probably about one-and-half-inches, zip on one side; false zips on other sde) in different colours, from Schuh. It's a very comfortable boot.

Bareback footwear is comfortable straight out the box. Might be a style you like in their sale.
