Laptop bags vs rucksacks- dated?

LostidentityM · 29/01/2023 22:54

I'm embarrassed to say I've been using an old expensive baby bag as a laptop bag but it's on its last legs and I'm looking for a replacement. I see lots of women with backpacks but I'm not sure it's me. Any recs for a normal laptop bag (or are they dated now?)

FYI I like colours rather than plain black

I use a brown leather messenger bag. Love it. Would never give it up.

I love the look of the Roka backpacks in a shop in town but don't need one as I don't work. They look so good.

How far are you travelling with it? I’m commuting into central London and use a rucksack with an additional small crossbody bag of some description. If I were driving or not travelling far I’d use a leather shopper or tote. I don’t really see messenger bags much I have to be honest.

Its all backpacks where I am for commuters. I have a nice leather one from tk maxx for the days I'm in the office but don't have to take a laptop in.

Sandqvist backpack. Mine is green canvas and I love it

TakeMe2Insanity · 30/01/2023 18:26

If you are going for a rucksack look carefully at the straps some of the trendy ones did in when slightly heavy.

Rains have a nice backpack slash messenger bag for a laptop

ConfusedGin · 30/01/2023 18:34

Depends on how much you need to take with you. I use a leather backpack - more work appropriate than a rucksack and more space than a laptop case for all the other -shite- gubbins I have to take for a day in the office like note books and chargers and headsets and lunch and layers of clothes and and and

I have a large navy Radley tote with a zip top and two separate sections inside, plus zip pocket.

My laptop is the biggest lump known to man, so took it to the outlet to try before I bought.

It's my second one, the first lasted 10 years!

I have a leather fossil backpack that I love, and holds laptop, day book, power cable, chargers, water bottle etc and I use a small cross body bag for keys / phones.

Oliver Bonas have some lovely rucksacks with laptop capartments. I got a lovely one when I started a new job and had to walk a mile to the office t avoid the carpark fees, so much better for my back than shoulder bags.

I have a couple of Roka bags and they are perfect for a laptop plus your other essentials. Very comfy straps and loads of choice re: colour / style.
V stylist backpack choice imho!

LostidentityM · 31/01/2023 06:48

It's twice a week for maybe a 45min journey one way. I usually wear a long shoulder bag (baby bag) which has that, notebook and phone etc. I tend to wear a long coat and am self conscious about a backpack knocking into people!

Love the look of the Roka ones but the thin straps put me off, with a laptop and other stuff in won't they dig in?

No they really don't. I have a large one that I often take to the supermarket and buy quite a lot of shopping so it's pretty heavy but fine to carry. Carrying my laptop is barely noticeable!
