Mascara etc no longer sealed?

What's going on? I went to Boots the other day to buy my usual mascara to find that none of the products were sealed.
I'm not buying that, I thought and hoofed it over to Superdrug's, same there!
Right, I thought, Amazon!
Checked online and reviews said it was sealed, arrived just now, it isn't!
Surely this is unhygienic? Why would I want to buy any makeup that has potentially been used. I don't use an expensive brand but even at £8 I'd quite like the assurance that the product I'm buying is new!
I'm really cross!!! 😡

I did exactly the same thread a while back. I buy from Amazon now and if it isn't sealed I send back or complain. I emailed Boots and asked why they weren't sealed and I had a ridiculous reply saying customers didn't want it...erm,this one does 🙄

It is nice to see testers back on the shelves though at long last!

Ilikewinter · 29/01/2023 17:28

Yeah but if you saw some of the people who use the testers you wouldn't go within 100 feet of them .... and please whatever you do NEVER put stuff on your lips !

Just received this in reply to my email to Maybelline.

In an effort to reduce single-use plastic some products do come without this seal now - however, most products should come with a sticker over the opening, such as a barcode sticker, so it can clearly be seen if the product has been opened or tampered with.

I will also get your feedback sent onto the brand regarding this :)

Please let me know if there's anything else I can help with,
Abbie x

I was going to say it’s prob environmental reasons, not using a plastic seal. Seeing a big push towards using less plastic now which is great, I’m all in favour. (Now how do we solve the bigger problem of the plastic tube of mascara itself??)

Can you pick one from the back or buy online so it’s less likely to have been tampered with?

I don't but I do want to see the actual shade as they bear no resemblance to the colour on the packaging.

They can use paper seals like they do with cards now.

Usually the barcode is stuck over the opening. L'oréal and Revlon lipsticks definitely do, I haven't bought mascara in while but I'm sure it's the same. It's quite easy to see if it's been opened. You don't need to go nuts over it.

@MistyRock thanks for your comment, however, there was no seal or barcode on the product at all hence the original question!

In that case I retract my comment and agree that it is shit. Maybe try and find a brand that does stick the bar code over it, or one that has a sales assistant like No7, less likely to be tampered with.
