Lands End stuff

I owe them an apology! I just ordered two coats at over half price off in their mega sale. I always thought Lands End was strictly for snowstorms in middle America and not suited for central London life, but both are really well made and not as unstylish as I thought. Incredibly light and warm too, with great hoods, pockets and cuffs.

I am wondering if this is just because I am getting older and now putting function over form. Any other stuff that's good from Lands End? Their sale is fab.

I have a turtle neck jumper which is 20 years old from there. Perfect nick.

Their pyjamas are cosy and last forever.

Really well-made stuff.

PAFMO · 28/01/2023 14:20

The shearling slippers.
About half the price of any sheepskin slipped and so, so warm.
I'm on my second pair in about 6 years, and they are worn constantly.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 28/01/2023 14:23

It's your age...😂

If you can find a nice 'thing' from them you're quids in - nice quality, wears well etc. Their colours aren't good for me so I'm limited to basics mostly. Sales are great value.

They are very good for petite stuff that isn't readily available (a petite fit dressing gown! At last I'm not swamped). They do plus and long so presume those folk are pleased too.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 28/01/2023 14:23

Accidental bold, sorry.

:) Probably. I agree some of the colours for their coats are not to my taste- cherry red, bright blue- but I just bought a basic black and another in basic khaki.

Off to look at their turtlenecks. Their styling is terrible but I am getting to that age where I can look past that.

Their swimwear collections are great - they do a rash vest that goes with a bikini top, tankini, swim suit, board shorts, swim mini, swim skort and so on. V good quality.

I am still wearing one of their down coats (now relegated to cold and mucky work due to some stains) that I bought 22 years ago. I have 5 Lands End coats as they last so long and ones like the expedition stadium parka don't get worn more than a couple of weeks a year, but on days like tomorrow when I will be standing by the side of a wind swept river bank for 5 hours to see my ds whizz past for 10 seconds I am massively thankful for it.

KirstenBlest · 28/01/2023 14:40

@Lentilweaver , the quality is good, but as with House of Bruar, the styling looks like it's aimed at retired people ordering from the back of the weekend newspaper colour supplement.

LE is good for swimwear (not cheap but good quality and a good range of sizes) and basics. There used to be an outlet not far from me and I got plenty from there.

Icedlatteplease · 28/01/2023 14:41

Their night dresses. Also picked up a pair of shoes for £8 in the sale, walked all round barcelona in them

Lentilweaver · 28/01/2023 15:13

I guess this isn't news to anyone, but they seem to have inoffensive basics and incredibly ugly stuff side by side.
This swimsuit, perfectly ok and I might even buy it. .www.landsend.co.uk/Womens_Wrap_Front_Slender_Swimsuit_/pp/P_39005.html?cgid=11342&dwvar_P__39005_color=BLA

They have some good colours for me - an ice blue, some good navy, other cool tones in tops and jumpers. Their nightwear is well made and good quality. I like their stuff but XS comes up flappy on me (size 10, plenty of nork) so my choices are limited as I generally want things to be fairly fitted as it’s more flattering on me.

mateysmum · 28/01/2023 15:23

Their cashmere is really nice. I'm wearing a jumper now that I got for £66, original price was something like £160. I'm 5'1" and their petite trousers are the only ones I can buy without having to shorten them. Basic layering tops and t shirts are also really good quality and I bought a bath towel from them which is just gorgeous.
I never buy unless there is at least 40% off!

AllLopsided · 28/01/2023 15:37

Agree re nightshirts, although they are not quite as thick as they used to be.

I like the cotton/modal long-sleeved scoop-neck tops and starfish cropped trousers.

On the downside I find the v-neck T-shirts cut much too high, though the cotton is really soft. And I think there are too many 3/4 sleeve tops... can only wear them for about 6 weeks of the year here. There are lots that I would buy if they had long sleeves!

I have a winter coat that I bought in the sale years ago - so warm and well made.

Quinque · 28/01/2023 16:47

Plain cotton roll neck tops to wear under jumpers. Mine have lasted for years and show no signs of wear. Sleep tees with long or short sleeves, cotton with no irritating lace or trims. And swimsuits called tugless, I swim regularly and find they live up to their name. Comfortable and functional.

walkinthewoodstoday · 28/01/2023 18:44

I think it's probably for over 45s though?

Whereas ageism and twatty comments like that from @KirstenBlest begins at what age?

EdithWeston · 28/01/2023 19:19

I've had loads of swimwear from there - really good

I live fairly close to their outlet shop, so have picked up a lot of things over the years. Most recent was a cashmere jumper - heavily discounted and really soft

Most of DH's casual trousers come from there and they last really well too.

EdithWeston · 28/01/2023 19:22

walkinthewoodstoday · 28/01/2023 18:44

No, they have a kids range and the adult range is suitable for anyone

The ageism on MN is really depressing sometimes.

Kids stuff is v good, BTW. A lot of the girls skirts are skorts. And I don't think I've had anything from there that has worn out rather than being outgrown (and some has been handed down through all 3 DC)

blobby10 · 28/01/2023 19:26

@EdithWeston - me too!! Bit further away than you though 😉x love LE swimwear and their basics but the winter coat I bought in the summer sale is two sizes smaller then labelled and the pocket has come unstitched already! Not insurmountable but irritating as although it was half price it was still expensive! Their jeans are awesome if you have longer than standard legs but I find their jumpers lose shape too quickly and are never quite long enough x their tops were fab when I was slim but now I’m portly they make look rounder and fatter than ever with their square shaped cut 😂

walkinthewoodstoday · 28/01/2023 19:29

Ok, fair enough. I like quality and clothes that can be worn outside in all weathers. I recently had a look at regatta and thought it has upped its game but a quick look on lands end and nothing appealed but I think my mum would like! I know seasalt has a reputation for being at an older market but I quite like some of their things. I will check out the kids wear

KirstenBlest · 28/01/2023 19:45

Regatta and Seasalt are both fine quality-wise, and have some things that are really nice.

walkinthewoodstoday · 28/01/2023 19:49

@PAFMO it's just my opinion based on how they present their online shop/catalogue. That seems to be their target market!

Tillytess · 28/01/2023 19:56

I have recently bought 5 pairs of pyjamas in their sale because they had the kind I like, long sleeve t short top and wide leg bottoms in petite sizing. Reduced from around 60 to 20 and some even 14 pounds. The only thing I really don't like is when they bunch sizes together, i.e. 10/12, 14/16 etc. They re extremely good quality and nice colour combinations. Some of them are xmas themed but that doesn't bother me. Would absolutely recommend.

Glenthebattleostrich · 28/01/2023 19:58

i love their basics. bought a few turtle neck tops about 7 years ago which are still in amazing condition

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/01/2023 20:00

It is a bit your age..

However the Oxford No iron shirts are good if you can find a nice pattern 😁

Lentilweaver · 28/01/2023 20:06

I am 51:) But also I think that I am finally dressing for the life I have. I WFH now, spend most of my time in grimy Tube carriages, walk a lot in all weathers. Have no use for "nice" clothes, just want something warm and light and comfy and washable which doesn't fall apart after a couple of washes.

I agree their styling makes even the pretty models look like Aileen Wuornos.
