Hair regret post impromptu restyle

I had my hair chopped today and went from just below shoulders to chin length Bob. I adored it when it was done but was hungover, now worrying that I had just felt a bit impulsive. I hadn't really thought much about it before today them before I knew it I was blurting out "I need a change".
Eek! What can I do while I wait for it to grow? It does grow very quickly and I'm sure I can cope,, as it is hardly a terrible thing - shallow of me to even complain, but my hair! 😩😩 - it's been complimented recently for having got longer. Why did I do it?! Will I look older with a chin length Bob than my longer hair? Gah....

This may out me but I've got a job change coming up and had bad week at current job last week and just thought "feck it. I need even more change". Not put the semi perm colour on it yet which I might do but honestly , I go a bit mad with my hair. Again (and if my hairdresser reads this) it's a lovely cut, I'm just a bit "WTH have I done ?"!

So have dried it straight tonight and husband says it lacks oomph, DS2 said "it looks too short mummy " and teen just grunted.
Dog still loves me though and came for a sit by the hairdryer as he thought it was switched on for him

Pic. Slept on but you get the idea of the length

I had my hair cut a few months ago from shoulder length to exactly this and also regretted it immediately, after about 6 weeks it looked loads better

Hollyhocksandtulips · 30/01/2023 21:25

My family are NOT helping.
I could've had an AIBU tonight as it has felt like they hate me. Clue: Dh saying the curry I made was "a bit sickly " after eating it all in about 2 minutes flat was not helpful. Nor was "what do you want me to say about your hair?" And "well you never compliment me !" 🤣😩

I had about six inches cut from mine Saturday, and coloured. Dh and ds said it looked exactly the same as before I left the house! I didn't want so much off but I always feel I need to make it worth the stylist getting her scissors out Confused and agree to get big lengths being hacked off for some odd reason.

Maybe you need a fringe with your new shorter, sharper look? I think it looks lovely but I know exactly how you feel. Why oh why do we do it?

MabelFurball · 30/01/2023 22:19

I think it looks really nice OP. I tend to have this length then grow it down a bit then have it chopped and repeat.

Nodney · 30/01/2023 22:23

You look great, OP. Lovely colour and the length suits you

Dry it upside down? It needs more lift at the roots and a messier parting.

Hollyhocksandtulips · 31/01/2023 07:38

It's very flat this morning so will dry shampoo roots I think. Not sure how you mean about messier parting @RichardsGear ?

It's understandable to have regrets after an impromptu haircut or restyle. To cope with hair regret, consider the following:
Give it time: It may take some time to get used to the new look. Wait and see if you grow to love it.
Style it differently: Try styling your hair in a different way to see if it makes a difference.
Get a trim: If your hair still looks uneven, visit a hair stylist for a trim to improve its appearance.
Be positive: Focus on the things you like about your hair, and try to embrace the change.
Consider extensions: If the regret is severe, consider hair extensions as a temporary solution until your hair grows back.

volumising powder is your friend here. Straighten it, lift about the top third of your hair and sprinkle it underneath. Each side back and fringe. Then sort of rub it to make it more oomphy

You can also put a bit in your palm and rub in into your hands then use your hands to work through the vet ends to give it more shape

Ooh I have this powder. Good idea!
I'm at office today and had loads of people say they love it so I feel a bit better now too that others like it

Glad you’re getting a more positive reception. Families are crap sometimes, my teenager laughed every time he looked at me after one disastrous hair cut

RichardsGear · 01/02/2023 01:07

Glad you're happier with it. By messier parting, I just meant something like this.
