Fancy Cotswolds weekend - packing?
MamaDuckling · 24/01/2023 12:46
Hello,
DH and I off to a naice Cotswolds hotel for a night next week for special birthday.
What should I pack? I know it’s FREEZING, but any help on how casual/dressy these types of gastro pub with fancy rooms are would be much appreciated!
I’d like outfits for;
-travelling and mooching in bar/lounge on arrival
-dinner in the restaurant (fine dining but still a ‘pub’)
-and then a walk plus another gastro lunch the next day…
Any links appreciated, up for buying a few new bits!
I have good jeans/coat/boots/and a few nice jumpers.
I’m size 10, fair/mousey, tall ish. Almost 40…
TIA!

I’m quite local to the Cotswolds and have stayed in many nice inns there - most people seem to dress quite ‘sloaney’, not overly done up.

I’m no style maven but I wear boots and a nice skirt, smartish top but nothing too glitzy, and I never feel under or over dressed. Admittedly we don’t dine out later than about 9ish or go drinking afterwards so I don’t know how dressed up people get for that.

Depends on where you stay, some places are a bit more posh than others I live in The Cotswolds
Personally I’ve never really seen anyone dress up for a walk, it’s more jeans, shirts and tweed! Oh and the least fashion is wearing a dry robe 🤦♀️
It will be cold, grey and miserable this weekend so wrap up warm
For the gastro pub, I wear a nice smart casual top with, fitted trousers and a jumper

Okay so Sloaney/tweedy, will get the Barbour out!
It’s Daylesford we’re staying at, and have various foodie reservations across the pub/farm.

We have been to the cotswolds for a night away in a gastro pub or restaurant wiht rooms several times.
Not too dressy, is my suggestion. Take good walking shoes and warm trackies and sweater for a lovely country hike if you're doing one, or smart chinos/jeans/cords and a pretty sweater with leather boots for wandering around stately homes and gardens.
For dinner in the evening I'd wear a silk blouse with cashmere cardi or wrap over it. Simple and smart but not too dressy. I think heels and a cocktail dress would look overdressed.

Thanks @WinterFoxes that sounds like what I had in mind.
I’ve had a bit of an online spree today and bought:
Long cosy cardigan (neutral)
Off white denim shirt
Indigo straight jeans in my fave cut
Short wellie things
Wrap blouse for evening, to be worn with jeans and heeled boots.
Thanks for tips everyone!

There's a few old articles on sheerluxe that I've always assumed are aimed at people going to the Cotswolds. Found this one, might be good for ideas of what you'd like (or not like!)

That all sounds exactly right - long cardi, nice jeans. Love the sound of that off-white denim shirt.

@WinterFoxes the shirt was a disappointment (M&S), puffed sleeves too puffy unfortunately and very stiff on.
Bought a lovely phase eight wrap top that I’ve had my eye on in the sale though, and the jeans look fab with it.
The cardigan is gorgeous, but it’ll have to go with a smart tee instead.
Thanks for all the tips 😄
