Makeup bag refresh!

CherryBlossom321 · 23/01/2023 16:44

I need to refresh the contents of my makeup bag, so looking for recommendations or advice. It’s currently full of bits/ final dregs of an eclectic range. I’m sure some products have been around longer than the 12/18 month recommended time scale post opening.

I’m up for trying new things, but must emphasise that my budget currently is very much high street/ drugstore rather than premium. I usually go for concealer, base, bronzer, highlighter, mascara and lipgloss. Fairly natural and can-be-applied-in-a-hurry type products.

I’m 39 (40 this year) with some signs of aging. Skin type is normal/dry. Ash blonde and light beige skin tone if that helps. Any advice gratefully received!

Hi, I’m not certain if this is what you mean, but I rate The Ordinary serum foundation. It’s about £5/6 and you can get it from Boots

4 of my staples are Iconic Sheer Blush liquid, couple dabs on cheeks and instantly look healthy.

Charlotte Tilbury setting spray, keeps make up on all day even in summer.

Clinique chubby contour stick, so easy to blend and I use it as a bronzer.

Nars Radiant Glow tinted moisturiser.

I always get compliments on my make up from colleagues and friends, all quite natural looking.

ELF camo concealer is pretty good especially for the price. I like the NARS creamy concealer and this is similar.

NYX matte bronzer is as good as high end powder bronzers.

L'Oréal Lash Paradise is a great mascara.

Not drugstore but NARS tinted moisturiser is really lovely, you can usually get discount codes for Look Fantastic and it lasts ages, adds the right glow without being too made up for day to day.

Try having a look at Revolution for highlighters, I had one a few years ago that was really nice and glowy without having that glittery look. I'm sure it was under a fiver.

Oh and I used to love the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation, I was gutted when that left Boots but they've come back to Superdrug now (although not this item) the Healthy Mix Anti Fatigue one is on their site, it may be worth trying as Bourjois was a solid brand for good products, their little blush pots were fab too.

If I had to build a make up bag from a decently sized Superdrug, I'd have the following:

L'Oréal true match foundation if you want a light dewy coverage or Revolution IRL Filter for a full cover.

Collection Filter Finish illuminator ( excellent dupe of CT Hollywood Flawless Filter).

Revolution Super dewy liquid blush and Glow Splendour bronzer.

Maybelline Matte Maker powder.

Collection Lasting Perfection concealer ( supposed to be a dupe of NARS Radiant creamy concealer).

e.l.f No budge shadow stick ( I also use as eyeliner) or Revolution for small palettes of colours if your prefer powder shadow.

Max Factor Brow Revival gel ( bit like Glossier's Boy Brow).

Collection Lash Surge Mascara ( pretty good dupe of Lancôme Hypnose).

Lipsticks- can't recommend as colour is so personal but L'Oréal do good nudes.

NYX setting spray.

L'Oréal are also great for Mascaras, Barry M do reasonable copies of Hourglass blushers, Collection have half decent Fenty contour/ blush/ highlighter sticks.

Sorry for the long post. I do love a root round a Superdrug!

Thank you, plenty of ideas to look at here! Looking forward to visiting Superdrug for some me time and to compare products.

The l'oreal color riche lipsticks in the gold tube are my favourite, they are cream lipsticks, so Slightly glossy and they smell wonderful, also their mascara in the gold and purple tube. Million lashes or something.

Collection concealer is great, so is the maybelline one with the sponge tip. I also like maybelline sensational mascara. Revolution are good for highlighters, but some are a bit glittery. My favourite lipglosses are from Rimmel. There’s a pinky one called snog (terrible name 😂) that I get loads of compliments on.
