Black tie wedding guest!

Thanks to my DS I’m bigger than my usual size. I’m now about a 14. I’ve got a lot of dresses that I don’t fit into and feeling a bit lost.

Wedding is at the end of February and is black tie. I’m happy to rent or buy.

I’m super pale, bit of a tummy still and 5’4”. Nothing orange, red, yellow or purple.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Have a browse at John Lewis (sale on at the moment)

www.johnlewis.com/browse/women/womens-dresses/evening/_/N-flwZ1yzkk88

This one has ruffles and drapes which skim over a multitude of lumpy bits:

This dress is fab - very flattering, and JL have done it year after year

What about this one? If you'd prefer not full length

I bought something from this brand recently, and their sizing is quite comfortable/generous

Definitely recommend the John Lewis stylist appointment, they will know what is coming in as well as current stock.

How about Nancy Mac? Lovely quality and range of colours, very flattering cuts

Hmmm, black tie though? I would usually go floor-length and gowny for black tie, personally - I'd do cocktail dress for semi-formal or black tie optional.

It's awful feeling under-dressed if everyone else is all red-carpet glam!

Thanks for the suggestions - I’m looking for something quite simple/modern as the bride is very stylish and achingly cool.

In 2011 when I got married, all the beautiful hipsters were buying their bridal gowns from The Vintage Wedding Dress Co, which was a previous project by this lady:
www.charliebrear.com/

It's too expensive for me :) but I got a fab seamstress friend to copy one of her bridal dresses and it was fab - understated, classic, flattering, chic.

I think she has a social media presence (I don't!) so you could troll her for guest-dressing links? Just a thought!

Yes, but you should go as you, wear something you like and feel good in.
(Disclaimer, I hate the pressure were all put on ourselves to dress in very specific ways for weddings)
