My GHDs just died. They’ve served me well, probably 10 years.
Had a quick google and there’s everything from £40 to £400.
No council tax next month so what straighteners would you recommend? I use them lightly only a couple of times a week to avoid damaging my shoulder length straight-ish hair.

I've had GHDs and cloud 9's. I prefer the cloud 9 but I've had them a couple of years and they seem about to fail whereas I had 2 sets of GHDs one last a decade and the second are ok I just keep them at the caravan as spares.

I think for your hair you be fine with the more mid priced ones

Cloud 9 all the way - last time my GHD’s died (10+ years old) I replaced with 2 x new pairs that didn’t work as well and broke fairly quickly, not the same quality as my old ones. 5 years into my first pair of cloud 9’s now and I love them.

Cloud 9 from me too

Stormystar · 20/01/2023 07:30

Definitely recommend Cloud 9 too.

GHD platinum

PolaDeVeboise · 20/01/2023 07:36

My GHD Platinum died recently (about a month after the guarantee expired - grrrr), and I was considering Cloud 9s, but scared of the outlay if I didn't like them. One of my pals stepped in and gave me a pair of originals, and I think they are better than the platinum!

I’ve got an ancient pair of ghds and a pair of Cloud 9s that are a year old. The Cloud 9s just don’t compare to the old ghds. Nowhere near. I know newer ghds aren’t meant to be as good though, so I fear the day mine finally give up!

Thank you for all the comments. I’ve figured cloud 9 are worth a go. I was going to get the touch but spotted the voltage on the original would mean that they work fine abroad where touch wouldn’t so I’ve bought originals.

I've got the original Cloud 9s, I had old GHDs that lasted over a decade but my new ones just weren't as good and packed in just out of warranty 🙄 my mother had FHIs which were also good if they're still around.

ElvisCymraeg · 21/01/2023 10:06

I've just used my new cloud 9s for the first time, they're pretty amazing...

CleanBedding · 21/01/2023 22:36

I had my first Cloud 9s for Christmas and I can't believe the difference from my old straighteners, they're soo good. I'll never go back to other brands now.

What's the difference between the touch and original version? I can see the touch is cheaper - why?

SerialFaffer · 22/01/2023 00:13

Gosh, lots of recommendations for Cloud 9! To add some variation into the mix, I LOVE my Corioliss straighteners - my set have lasted me for years so far and I’d happily go back to Corioliss if I needed to, as they’re excellent quality.

GHDs sadly never lasted 5 minutes. I gave up on them years ago.

Loki64 · 22/01/2023 00:17

Corioliss!!

The only difference that was important to me was the voltage as we go to the USA every couple of years. In the UK, the standard voltage is 240V, in the USA it’s 120V. This difference is the touch operate at 200-240V and are suitable for the UK system but not for the USA. Originals have dual voltage and work between 100-240V.

To throw something else in the mix, when my GHD died I got a L’Oréal steam pod, I find it very good.

Like you my GHDs died a death and was looking for new straightners. I have always used GHDS but due to costs etc.. I have just got some Rimington shine therapy straightners and they are brilliant. Work really well on my fine, short hair. Also they are way cheaper than GHDs. Not sure if they will last as long but currently really pleased.

ChicCroissant · 22/01/2023 09:25

My hairdresser uses Remington straighteners and I bought some, they work well on my hair and they were also cheap.

alania · 22/01/2023 10:06

Diva straightners are great
