Thoughts on this dress for work?

Corporate city role, bought a couple of dresses for work before Christmas.
One white, one red. I've worn the white one lots but I've not worn the red one yet (which maybe tells its own story) So now I'm doubting myself. (It's high summer where I live)

Thoughts?

They are both Lovely but sleeveless so not suitable workwear by UK standards.

LapinR0se · 19/01/2023 21:37

these are perfect for a cocktail bar but not for an office. Sorry

Katrinawaves · 19/01/2023 21:37

I wouldn’t wear the white one for a corporate city role (unless I was invited as a guest at the tennis!). Red one looks way more professional.

hobbledyhoy · 19/01/2023 21:38

They look a little more evening wear to me. Nice but not quite for the office.

cloudrunner · 19/01/2023 21:40

They are lovely dresses for parties or dinners. Both would send entirely the wrong message in any UK financial/professional setting. Yours may be different.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/01/2023 21:40

I don’t think either of them are “corporate city” but if you like them, knock yourself out. Rules are a lot looser now I think.

I don’t know how old you are but I’m in my late thirties and I wouldn’t wear the white dress to work, is too short to start with

Spirini · 19/01/2023 21:42

Are you in Aus? Maybe the 'rules' on sleeveless might be different there. I really like both, particularly the red. White is potentially quite short, depending on your own height of course

RovenderKitt · 19/01/2023 21:42

I’d have worn the red one to the office in my younger days. Not the white one though, it’s not smart enough

HermioneWeasley · 19/01/2023 21:43

The white is a lot of skin for the office.

the red is stylish. If sleeveless dresses are Ok where you work then I think you can get away with that

MintChocCornetto · 19/01/2023 21:45

The red one is a lot more suitable as business dress.

I've got to say the white one makes me think you're off to play tennis....

I wear sleeveless dresses to work all the time.

so that’s bollocks.
it depends on the industry

Hop27 · 19/01/2023 21:47

See that's so interesting, I would never wear the red one as evening wear! Far too corporate! I'd feel like a bit of a twat out for drinks in that!
I'd probably wear something more like this out for drinks

You are not uk. As you say summer. Australia. Both would be completely inappropriate for uk corporate.

TeeBee · 19/01/2023 21:49

Neither look professional.

Movingonup2023 · 19/01/2023 21:49

The white one is too short.

Surprised at the few comments on sleeveless, I always wear sleeveless as I hate being too hot. If it’s winter I take a cardigan.

Pipsquiggle · 19/01/2023 21:51

Red one is more city corporate due to length and neckline.

Sleeveless is not that common for city wear in UK

PatriciaHolm · 19/01/2023 21:51

The black one is a negligee as far as I'm concerned ;-)

Neither look UK corporate, as others have said, so I'm not sure how much use we can be!

Hop27 · 19/01/2023 21:51

Sleeveless is completely the norm here, obviously during certain settings I wear a jacket. But 80% of my summer work wear is sleeveless. My LinkedIn profile shot I'm sleeveless and so is my corporate headshot I'm 42, the white one is above knee on me. I'm 5'6.

AltitudeCheck · 19/01/2023 21:53

I like the red one but the cut out detail on the neck makes it more of a party dress than a work dress (where I work) especially if you can see skin or underwear!

Hop27 · 19/01/2023 21:53

Part of the reason I'm asking is I've spent my full professional career overseas and will need to start working in London. Can anyone give me examples of what is acceptable?

nzeire · 19/01/2023 21:54

Both beautiful and perfect for an office in nz

Penguinsaregreat · 19/01/2023 21:54

I’d wear the red one for work but not the white one.

nzeire · 19/01/2023 21:55

Oh london, the red with a jacket. Not the white soz

Pipsquiggle · 19/01/2023 21:55

The white one is not city corporate at all for the UK. Way too short.

I think maybe an antipodean forum would be best for your question
