Find me a perfume!

I'm not a massive perfume person in that I don't wear it day-to-day, just weekends, going out etc. Perfumes I have loved include Chloe, Issey Miyake, Chanel Coco de Mademoiselle and just finishing a bottle of Chance. Only ones I really don't like that spring to mind is Mugler Alien, and Poison. I'm early/mid 40s.

I feel the ones I've loved are all 20+ years old? What might be something more modern or even fashionable that I might like? Fewer and fewer testers available on the high street, no department store in my small city and smelling too many at once can be overwhelming anyway. Help me narrow it down!

I have recently received Gucci Flora as a present, and love it. Its not too strong and it's fresh but good for winters too.
Also, I bought a cheaper one from Banana Republic during my trip to US and it is good for days I am at home.
I tend to like fresh fragrances.

I've just had a bottle of Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Nil for my birthday and I love it.

I chose it as have become stuck in a Prada/Cristalle/Jo Malone rut and wanted something different

L'occitane Rose is a very modern and fresh rose/floral that I love. I really like a lot of their perfumes.

What do you like about them perfumes that you normally go for?

I would highly recommend looking at Narciso Rodriguez. All of theirs are gorgeous, but I personally really love ‘Narciso’ in the white, square bottle, always get compliments on it.

SerialFaffer my problem is there's nothing obviously in common with the ones I like- when I put them in a perfume search thing the Chanel ones were "Woodsy", the Miyake "fresh" and the Chloe "Floral".

I guess as these are/were all very popular what I'm really asking is, if you liked any/all of these, what else do you like?

After a browse, others I've remembered liking further back were Very Irresistible and J'adore.

I love Chloe and Chance and another favourite of mine is calvin Klein euphoria.

Have you used the Fragrantica website? It's great for making suggestions based on what you like, you can search by your favourite notes/ingredients etc.

Thank you that was really helpful, although along with suggestions I know I like it three in some I know I hate. I do have a good shortlist to work with now though... will report back eventually!

I liked all those.
Now I wear Clean Reserve, favourites are Sel Santal and Rain. Heavier than what I wore in my 20s and 30s but not overpowering and they are modern style.

From the ones you have mentioned it sounds like I have similar tastes as I love those too. I also love the original Narciso Rodriguez, Hermes eau de merveilles and Chanel chance eau fraiche for day time. My night fragrance is always Dior Addict
