Full head of highlights

How often do you get a full head of highlights? I’ve been getting it every time so every 9-10 weeks. I’m starting to think it an excessive! Any thoughts?

I've been getting a full head every 5 weeks for over a year but only because I'm not happy with the colour. My hairdresser recommended alternating a full head and half head every 8 weeks.

Leemoe · 17/01/2023 22:49

I get a half head every twelve weeks because I am quite mindful of the damage bleach causes.

Surely getting a full head every ten weeks would make your hair almost fully bleach blonde within a year? Or at least the lengths would be?

Is it bleach highlights that you have or just a blonde tint?

BananaSpanner · 17/01/2023 22:50

Wow, that’s quite often. I get a full head of high lights followed 12 weeks later by a t section followed 12 weeks later by a half head then 12 weeks later a full head again ( I might swap the order based on the need).

ilovetomatoes · 17/01/2023 23:27

Yeah I’m fully blonde now but naturally dark brown so also super conscious of roots hence the frequency. It also take 5 hours each time so really full on. I need to scale back clearly!!!!

Perhaps have some of your natural colour or a darker blonde added in next time you go?

Bunce1 · 17/01/2023 23:32

I do similar to@BananaSpanner Ot is possibly worth thinking about less colour and more incorporation of your natural hair?

NoDairyNoProblem · 17/01/2023 23:33

My appointments are 8 weeks apart and work on a rotation:

  1. full head and toner
  2. t bar and toner
  3. half head and toner
  4. t bar and toner
  5. half head and toner
  6. t bar and toner
  7. full head and toner

You need to embrace being dark ie get a shadow root painted on to blend your future regrowth; a money piece will keep your face looking super blonde. Or fully commit to blonde with a scalp regrowth bleach? Highlights involve overlapping the previous colour so eventually your hair will be damaged if you keep this up, it just takes one appointment to wreck your hair

Thanks all this is excellent advice. I’m liking the @NoDairyNoProblem schedule

and thank you for the warning on damage @itswednesdayy this makes sense

sorry I really am clueless about all this.

What is a money piece by the way?

my hairdresser does a root tap for me which she says makes it look more natural?

🤣 Did your hairdresser also recommend you buy expensive champagne from
her to sip while she does your hair?

Of course she recommends you spend a fortune! You don’t have to do it.

A money piece is light hair around your face when the rest is darker. Think Geri Spice.

I do similar to this, I quite like the grown in root because theres still quite a bit of my natiral colour for it to blend with, keeps the cost down as well!

Bluegem7 · 05/02/2026 09:57

I've recently gone blonde again (last may) and my hairdresser suggested a full head every 12 months with a T section in between as needed. But after 6 months I found my back hair was showing through dark grey which I didn't like so I asked for a full head. My hairdresser said my hair would end up too light if I had a full head. I thought they only colour the regrowth so don't understand how the rest of the hair gets over bleached.

justsoveryodd · 05/02/2026 10:44

I get a half head every 8 weeks but on occasions she will do some extra further down at no charge.
