What simple things do you do that you feel makes you look better?

I'm after ideas to give myself a bit of a lift!

OP posts:

Wear perfume
Wear something that I am excited to wear for whatever reason be it new or because I am creating an outfit to recreate a look that I have found on Pinterest

Liz Earle cleanse and polish really makes me feel better. It's like a quick facial before bed.

I also like wearing different earrings a couple of times a week rather than just having the same old pair in all the time!

I'm the same OP, need some ideas too. Current list :

Colour hair or at least a bit of colour wow
Brush hair fully - currently do a once through on school run but it's usually knotted underneath unfortunately
Wear lipstick and lip balm
Perfume
Clean clothes/bag
Drink more water 2L
More fresh air/walks

Exfoliating teardrop facial sponge, it's only a light one but I use it every morning with soap followed by serum and moisturiser. Definitely helped with my skin texture.

For me, I always feel better with a good blow-dry. I'm luck that mine will last for a few days.

Eyebrows coloured (at home) fortnightly, couple of drops of tan in my moisturiser a few times a week makes a big difference as well.

Also just being consistent with skin care helps, no matter what the routine actually is.

Yes agree with hair being blow dried and also Olay night & day cream. I don’t wear make up often but a bit of cream goes along way. My skin is routine is minimal but important, it keeps me looking fairly fresh.

I get my nails done

I have a nice necklace I wear all the time and feels nice on

light tan (water spray for face and those tanning wipes if I don’t have time)

keeping active and taking St. John’s wort (to keep low mood at bat)

nzeire · 21/01/2023 08:03

My speciality! I live a good pamper!

regularly get brows done, my brow girl is a genius
at home, hair treatment, currently trying a gloss from Kerastase, smells amazing
teeth whitening kit every few weeks, make such a difference
a couple of fake tan drops in my moisturiser
eyelash serum

yoga is gradually changing my life :) (head, heart and body)
walking
water

tinted glowy bb cream
lipgloss and a little mascara

i wear all my beautiful silver jewellery. All the time, I stack a couple of rings, a couple of bracelets and a couple of necklaces. Makes me feel all boho and cool

it’s a little bit every day. I get the blues easily, and it (shallow as it may be to some people) makes me feel good!

It's boring but

Sleep
Water

After a few early nights and 3+ litres of water a day I look so much better

Using my babyliss big hair, makes my hair really smooth and like I've had it done at the hairdressers.

Nails filed and cuticles done, not necessarily polished.

Taking time to do my makeup really carefully and not just slapping it on. Following a Lisa Eldridge tutorial on YouTube. Have learned lots watching her.

Eating well, minimising alcohol, drinking lots of water.

Looking after my skin. I don't have a routine of certain products but I use a cleansing balm at night, foaming wash in the morning. SPF in the day, rosehip oil day and night. Nice moisturisers- not expensive. I like the M&S formula sleep cream, but I do change products a bit. I have a pineapple skin peel thing from revolution, cheap and really nice. I love face masks too, enjoying using Filorga Meso mask at the moment.

All this stuff makes me look better but I also enjoy the little routines, I find them relaxing. I have a collection of products by my bed and will use them at night whilst listening to a podcast. Face stuff, hair oil, cuticle oil, lip balm, hand cream. It's the feeling of taking a little time to take care of myself- it helps I think.

@nzeire what hair gloss are you using? I've been trying to find a good one.

Kerastase chroma absolu

i read about it in mumsnet! First time using tonight, it’s nearly dry, and it’s shiney!!! Feels good!

nzeire · 21/01/2023 11:37

The L’Oréal 8 second wonder was nice too!

SideshowAuntSallly · 21/01/2023 12:05

A bit of a tan (out of a bottle not sunbed). I always look and feel better with a bit of colour, I had 3 holidays abroad last year(I normally have none last year was an exception) so am still sporting a bit of natural colour.

Also getting rid of my grey hairs, and wearing well fitting clothes. Just chucking on one of my biker jackets puts a spring in my step too as it means it's getting warmer(can't wait for the warmer weather).

I tried that a while ago, and while it did make my hair a bit shinier the smell was awful. It smelt like the perming lotion old ladies used to put on their hair or something - horrible!

Things I do to make myself feel and look better:

Hair - I use my Revlon One Step to blow dry my hair nice and smooth, it's as close to a salon blow dry as I can get.
Skincare - I have figured out a simple routine which makes my skin glow and means I don't really wear make up anymore.
Perfume - always makes me feel better.
Also nice runners, I like my black Adidas Gazelles because they look smarter than my other scruffy runners, so even wearing jeans and a jumper I feel more put together somehow.

Aside from the grooming aspect - reading a good book, such a nice distraction to dive into a good story, also helps me get to sleep if I read before bed. Walking out in nature, even on a cold or windy day, always feel refreshed afterwards.

Things I need to work on - more sleep, keeping my nails looking better (currently have nail varnish chipping off), and getting back into regular exercise - always makes me feel better.

WombatBombat · 21/01/2023 17:08

Clean and styled hair
Cleansed & moisturised skin, sometimes with tinted moisturiser.

Something as simple as jeans & a jumper, but a more modern cut/style - so slightly flared jeans with a cropped boxy jumper and chunky trainers, rather than an oversized longline jumper with skinnies and white Stan Smiths.

I instantly feel a bit more pulled together.
