Moon boots

Are moon boots worth the hassle? Not so much cost but in terms of bulk, packing them etc. Are they as warm and grippy as marketing suggests? Thanks Grin

Oops - context would help! For hiking, sledging etc with toddler and baby in the alps. Concerned about carrying baby around and slipping in the snow / ice

I’ve wanted moon boots since I was 6 and I was given an ugly fake pair from C&A. I’m now 55 and succumbed last year and I love them -BUT they’re not as soft and squishy inside as you’d think. Not as snuggly as UGGs for example. Probably Sorel -type boots are the most practical for tobogganing etc. But, the moon boots look cool (IME), are easy to pull on, waterproof and most importantly make my legs look longer!

I would not recommend them for hiking, and they're not really even good enough for walking around the snow and possible ice. They're a bit of a poser boot in the alps.

Sorel is a great option as mentioned above, as are any of the 'snow' brands like North Face that do genuinely practical boots that are still chic enough.

I too have wanted them since I was young! Gutted to hear they might not be that good for snow and ice 😂❤️ my mum would never let me get them and I thought this might be my moment!

I know they're a bit posey but as I won't get to do any skiing this year I thought I'd live out my teenage dream of swanning around in fancy gear 😂 I think ladies wearing them look so glam!

DD and I both have them and we will definitely be posing around the Alps in them ( she will no doubt be more successful at it than me!)

I have a pair of mammal snow boots I bought about 10 years ago. They are not as funky as moon boots, true, but they do still look good and they are SO practical. They have spikes that can be flipped over if there’s no ice. I tend to have the spikes retracted for the airport and then flip them out for the slopes. They are warm, they don’t seem to get wet and they’re very comfortable.

Wow-flip out spikes! That's amazing and I must have some 😁
