Desperate for a pair of slipper boots that will actually last

ImprobablePuffin · 17/01/2023 14:35

Wasn't sure whether to post in chat or S&B.
Birthday coming up and I'm desperate for a pair of boot style slippers that will actually last and hold their shape. They would need a hard sole rather than flimsy.

Please can anyone recommend excellent slipper boots?

I've gone for Celtic & Co slipper boots for the first time this year. We have rustic stone and wooden floors in a very old, cold house so I really need something warm and sturdy. I was fed up of other brands, own brands and non brands - I've tried all sorts over the years - not being warm enough or falling apart, sometimes in as little as 6 weeks: Dunlop, I am looking at you. I went for Celtic & Co because of good reviews and because they are made in the UK. They are also washable. I got free p&p and managed to find a good discount code too. The slipper boots will feel extremely tight at first, but don't be put off by this as they relax to fit and will be supremely comfortable within a day or two. I've worn them constantly for the last month and absolutely love them - they are the best slipper boots I have ever had, so far. Long may they last.

Strangely enough, second place would have to go to a very cheap pair of Aldi slipper boots.

I’ve had uggs and loved them, but when my daughter came home from Uni she claimed them and I bought a real sheepskin slip on from Aldis, absolutely brilliant just as good as Uggs but sadly after raving about them to everyone they’ve never came on sale again.
husband has celts and he loves them.

Thunderpunt · 17/01/2023 19:41

Mine don't last however much I spend on them because the bloody dog thinks they are fair game to play with and eventually chew little holes in!

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 17/01/2023 19:53

I am currently wearing a pair of Uggs I bought in 2009. I don’t wear them out of the house - pure house slippers only. Cost £150 or so but clearly earned their keep.

QuietYou · 17/01/2023 20:01

@RedCarsGoFaster
On the toes, I've tried my usual size and the next size up but they still wore through. DD is the next size again but they are huge 🥲

dinmin · 17/01/2023 20:03

I’m the same and got some tan suede faux shearling lined ones from M&S for Christmas. Proper sole but I have nearly tripped over a couple of times because the sole is so chunky!

bagsofbats · 17/01/2023 20:08

My white stuff ones have a sturdy sole. I have only had them since xmas but they are much more sturdy than others I have had.

Snugglemonkey · 17/01/2023 21:30

I had Uggs give up the ghost after 5 years of wearing just before Christmas. I fancied a change and got Sea Salt ones with a nice fair isle pattern. They feel great, but I cannot attest to longevity yet obvs. I don't really want them to last as long as the Uggs to be honest, that was too long of looking too good to justify new ones!

Another vote for the Celtic and co ones - so comfy and cosy

eurochick · 18/01/2023 07:43

Celtic sheepskin house boots. Bloody amazing. So warm and last well.

elevenplusdilemma · 18/01/2023 07:51

Expensive, but the Celtic & Co Celt house boots are worth every penny. Mine are at least 8 years old and still almost perfect:

I wear these from FitFlop. They last literally years (I bought my current pair in 2017 and they show absolutely no signs of flagging). Incredibly comfortable and supportive being FF and currently on sale in some lovely colours.

Hi @ImprobablePuffin thanks for posting! I can see you've already had lots of great suggestions, but just wanted to point you in the direction of our page for the best women's slippers in case it's of any help at all. It's made up of recommendations from Mumsnet users and features plenty of boot options as well as other tried and tested styles! Hope it's of some use, please feel free to let us know if you've any feedback! Smile

Shuttheblinds · 18/01/2023 13:20

I have got the sheepland ones that are on the MN recommended list above. They are gorgeous, so warm and comfy and not too expensive either.

Best slippers I’ve ever had.

Ariela · 18/01/2023 13:49

JustSheepskin. Have worn mine daily for ??4 years now, getting tatty but still going strong

ItsRainingCatsAndDogsAgain · 18/01/2023 14:20

Reasons to buy
Worn by Kendall Jenner

I'm not sure this is a reason to buy or for Mumsnet to recommend anything, @JennyMumsnet ?! More likely a reason to avoid for most of us!

I'll stick with my Celtic & Co, (or even Aldi).

StubbleAndSqueak · 18/01/2023 20:18

I buy mine directly from Just Sheepskin , last for ages. I'm not changing, if I'm paying that much for slippers I want them to last, I got the mules

Beachhutnut · 18/01/2023 20:21

Celtic and co. Expensive but worth it. I live in mine. On my 3rd year and going strong. Machine washable. You can get sheepskin insoles to extend the life when the originals wear down too.

DIL bought me these three years ago, I can go out to the bin, garage in them. Stil going strong. Not cheap but so warm. Whereas DIL needs new UGG slippers every winter. I live in mine day and night, they've seen me through all the lockdowns. I do wear the heels down 🙈. I've attached pictures

Another thought croc slippers. OH loves them in the winter. Has had them for a few years. The liner can be removed and washed

SleekMamma · 18/01/2023 22:54

Next sell UGG style that are fantastic.

fuckthisforagameofdarts · 18/01/2023 22:54

My Next ones were £30 ish and have lasted over a year

justasoul · 18/01/2023 23:04

My Costco ones (someone posted a link above) are on their 8th year - mine are children’s ones so only cost about £17 when I got them. I mentioned to a friend how old there were, she was impressed and said they look brand new (they don’t really but have held their shape and are very clean as I only use them indoors or for very brief outings (put the bins out, drive child somewhere that I don’t have to get out of the car…)

I think it's actually this company
