Is it possible to wear a straight or pencil skirt without it riding up?

Anyone else unable to sit down in a pencil/straight skirt without it riding up as you sit down so the waist band ends up as an empire line and the hem is a knicker height?

Is there any way to avoid this or do I just accept that my body is only meant for softer fabrics/cuts?

I am the same and have given up on them especially for work.

There are a few on the market with side slits. I used to have a couple but long ago. I’m not sure of availability now. Or a “V slit” as opposed to a vertical slit at the back.

I assumed you have tried a longer length, otherwise you would not be asking on here?

You have a poorly fitting skirt. This is not a dig at you - a skirt like that has to fit well and it doesn't take much to skew it. If it fit well it wouldn't ride up at the waist when you sit down.

The skirt sounds too small.

Small as in length? I'm quite short and it's standard. It's also generous at the waist. Perhaps this is the problem, my waist is quite small in comparison to my hips so it's baggy round my waist and then rides up. I fear I am just the wrong shape!

Yes, it has to have room around the hips and fit at the waist. Sadly most RTW seems to be cut for rather straight shapes so it's hard to get a good fit. Even if you are a straight shape I suspect it's hard to find pencil skirts that fit well. I'd suggest maybe focussing on the fit around your hips/bum and then getting the waist altered.
