Coco Chanel

I'm after a new perfume. I have had a few samples but really want to try Coco Chanel but finding a sample is proving tricky!

I own libre intense but want a change.

I like Coco Mademoiselle , Penhaligons Empressa, and Caroline Herena Good Girl. But they're all just a little too ?? sweet is maybe the word (at least I think sweet is the word).

I'm no perfume expert but seems for what I can tell Coco is more of an Amber perfume, not in the same group as the above mentioned perfumes? Anyone like the above perfumes and liked Coco?

Looking for more depth (god not even sure that's the right word!)

I have coco and coco mademoiselle and I do find the latter too sweet now. It's a very old bottle that I've had since my 20s and is nearly gone but I feel like I've grown up since I bought it and won't buy another. I LOVE coco, it is ambery, which is perfect for me. I'm a bit of a Chanel fan and it's my favourite one at the moment, I think perhaps because it's a bit wintery.

How far to your nearest Chanel counter? I'm sure you could get a sample there. They also have them in the medium sized boots in my town

Lou834 · 10/01/2023 18:50

Unfortunately nearest Chanel counter couple hours drive away. My local Boots haven't got it but maybe I'll see if the Boots in the nearest larger town have it (with open bottle to sniff first!).

My favourite perfumes are Chanel's

I do like Coco but gif me it's a winter only scent rather than a year long one as it's "heavier" scent to me (Ikwim !)

If I had sone I would send you a sample but I haven't.

I looked online at the samples they send with purchases in case you could get one that way (assuming you wanted to order something else) but no Coco samples.

Longshot but if you travel by rail or have a friend who does ( I only know London stations) but there is a Chanel small store at St Pancras and a small store at Covent Garden

nc8975 · 10/01/2023 19:26

I haven't smelt Coco ( I want to now, I love heavy scents!) love mademoiselle, but I got Chance (standard one) for Christmas, it's quite a good day one, not as strong as mademoiselle.

itsnothingoriginal · 10/01/2023 19:28

I love Coco. Its so rich, complex and spicy and it always makes me feel 'grown up' when I wear it!!

Definitely an autumn/winter fragrance and probably not a blind buy. I coveted it for ages before taking the plunge as I knew it wouldn't be an everyday perfume. I don't wear it often but it feels special when I do!

Lou834 · 10/01/2023 19:53

Now I really want to smell it 😆
That is a thought, my friend lives in London, not sure how frequently she visits the city but maybe she could post me a sample if the store will give her one rather than just spray a card!

Would you like this, OP? It’s a couple of years old but has been kept in the box. It doesn’t suit me and I end up scrubbing it off when I wear it. I have a parcel to post tomorrow so can pop it in at the same time. (I’m a regular on the perfumista threads, and I promise it it legit, I would rather someone enjoyed it than it sat unworn.)

Ebay often have samples

Curleduppup · 10/01/2023 20:56

I've worn Coco for years - kids always say it smells like me, don't like any of the other Chanels. My other favourite is Tom Ford White Patchouli - not sure if that helps.

nc8975 · 10/01/2023 21:01

Aww that's so lovely!

Summer2424 · 10/01/2023 21:07

Hi @Lou834 i love Coco Chanel Madameselle and Chance.
But one i always go back to and i feel has alot more depth and stays on all day is Burberry's Weekend 👌❤

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 10/01/2023 21:34

Haha @userxx - we perfumistas like to spread our fragrant love around like fairy dust! It’s a shame for it to sit here and never be reached for.

You’re so welcome @Lou834 - it’s packed up and ready to go. I hope you like it! 😍

WildFlowerBees · 11/01/2023 06:20

I love Coco, I find the EDP is too strong though. They did a lovely rich body cream in a glass jar but it's no longer available just the lotion which is disappointing I used to loved wearing it before bed. I hope they never discontinue Coco.

BumBumBumBumBum · 11/01/2023 07:36

Ooh I hope you like it when it arrives OP. It's one of my favourites but it does operate in Beast Mode so don't go overboard. Definitely a cold weather fragrance - just the thought of this in the summer makes me clammy!

TerrysAllGoldGlisters · 11/01/2023 11:03

I ADORE Coco Chanel, it's my first choice, all time favourite, go to perfume and has been for decades. It's a big, 80s style scent in that it enters the room before you do. It was reformulated at one point and isn't quite as stunning as the original but I still love it. I've never liked Coco Mademoiselle - too flowery, sickly sweet and talc-y for me

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 11/01/2023 16:45

It’s in the post!

Lou834 · 11/01/2023 17:59

Fab @Judystilldreamsofhorses , thank you, can't wait to have a sniff 😁

OP posts:
Geamhradh · 11/01/2023 19:49

I had a sniff of it this afternoon on the back of this thread. You'll love it OP, it's warm rich and ambery.
@Judystilldreamsofhorses I was on the perfumista threads with you for years, you've done a lovely thing there.

ReindeerBelieve · 11/01/2023 20:33

Judystilldreamsofhorses that is soooooo lovely of you .

I remember I bought Coco for a very DF when I first visited her after the birth of her first baby - baby is now 21 (!) it is a lovely rich scent - in fact I may just have to try's one next time I'm at St Pancras on way through.

I was thinking the other day that if I were on desert island discs my luxury would have to be a never ending supply of Chanel perfumes and body crèches etc Grin

ReindeerBelieve · 11/01/2023 20:34

Crème not crèches !!!
