Would love to know what brands make your go to winter coats whether it is a wool coat or a parka or a puffer? What you reach for most on a day to day. I have a couple poor fitting ones and need an upgrade. I normally keep them for a couple of years at least.

Hi @RosyappleA thanks for posting! Just wanted to pop in and point you in the direction of our Swears By page for the best winter coats for women. Boden whistles jigsaw me and em

Sobekneferu · 12/01/2023 02:53

Have a great Saskia trench from Hobbs, black wrap loving wool coat from French Connection, caramel shearling coat, a few leather jackets in black, grey, red and brown

I really like Lands End - especially their feather/down coats and gilets and have several. They wear, wash tumble dry really well and some of them fold very small. They currently have a sale on, online. 🌹

purpleme12 · 12/01/2023 09:16

Mine is like this one although not in tall.
But it honestly is the warmest and best coat I've had for years and years. I love it. It's a bit stained now to be honest 😓

purpleme12 · 12/01/2023 09:18

Mine isn't this exact one cos mine isn't new but it looks the same and it's from Dorothy Perkins

moogdroog · 12/01/2023 09:25

It's probably not the most stylish coat in the world, but I love my Landsend down-filled coat. It's midcalf, completely waterproof and very toasty. I bought it a few years ago for a bargain price at the height of summer, but it looks brand new still.

ChamberLink · 12/01/2023 10:15

I have mainly wool coats no anoraks or puffa coats.
My wool coats are from
Whistles x 3
Sandro x 1
Palones x 1
Boden x 1
COS x 1
Jigsaw x 1
The Kooples x 1 (amazing parka)
These are a mixture of long, mid, tailored, cocoon etc
I have 1 cheap buy from zara that i bought in an emergency (went somewhere, & realised I'd left my coat at home so bought in a sale) I'm wearing it loads at the moment as it seems to work with lots of the clothes I'm.wearing

I also have a Helly Hansen waterproof jacket for walking

I keep & wear coats for years

I have more jackets than coats but have just listed my coats

RosyappleA · 21/01/2023 00:28

Thanks for your suggestions, a few names I hadn’t heard of there. Have ordered a few will try them on and see what works best.

I counted and you have 11 coats.
I am so glad to hear this asI have 15 coats and jackets and I sometimes feel guilty.

I love different coats and jackets for different occasions. I buy them in charity shops and on eBay, though I pay full price price for waterproof coat for walking the dog as it need to be fit for purpose.
I have a Cotton Traders ankle length mackintosh with a cape and hood. Essential for the deluges we have had recently. It's not the most stylish but it has kept me really dry.

I have just deleted an essay about my coats as I am sure it's not interesting at all.

My wife has always found winter coats too warm but in menopause she gets cold really quickly.
(She has always been contrary 😉)
We were just discussing what coat would be best for her when this thread came u and I saw the link you shared.
I have just persuaded her to buy a Seasalt coat, thank to MN for the recommendation.

I have my eye on a White Stuff coat that's in the sale...don't tell anyone!

BHRK · 23/01/2023 08:19

my Favourite winter waterproof is the North Face arctic parka.
for wool coats I like Hobbs

QueenofFox · 23/01/2023 08:24

Rains for a waterproof, wind proof puffer. January essential. I’ve got some good wool coats from Stories.

Pigtailsandall · 23/01/2023 09:28

I have 4 winter coats and I love them all -

a long wool wrap coat from COS - slightly oversized and will fit on top of the thickest jumper
Me + Em blazer style wool coat - more tailored but bit boxy
Ted Baker cobalt blue wool coat - when I want more colour
Didrikson outdoor coat for when it's arctic and I have to stand around the playground

hamsterchump · 23/01/2023 11:35

I have this Topshop Pea Coat from quite a few years ago in both the khaki and navy which I love, never found another in quite the same shape since, it has a contrasting colour under the collar which I like too.

I have a parka style coat with a padded inside that I got from White Stuff in the autumn. I walk to work in all weathers and it's really warm and it's shower proof too. Blimey I have needed it recently. I do get the feeling a look like a shapeless sausage in it some days but tbh I'd rather be warm and dry on my walk. If I'm going out out I wouldn't wear it butit's been a godsend this winter.

BitOutOfPractice · 23/01/2023 11:40

It's this one

Ruthietuthie · 23/01/2023 13:03

For an incredibly warm wool coat (has cashmere too, but 100% natural fibres), I love my Mackage coat. It's a Canadian brand.
I also have an incredibly warm wool coat from Max Mara.
I also have a wool loden coat from Robert Stoltz, which is a classic.
For puffer, I like my Moncler puffer (although mine is the more mat colour, not the shiny one which looks a bit like a bin-bag). It's warm and doesn't make me look like a marshmallow.
