Tear trough fillers

I am sick of looking tired. I have always had hollows under my eyes but with getting older (I’m now 40), having two non-sleeping children and losing a bit of weight they are looking more pronounced than ever. I’ve never had any cosmetic procedures and never thought that I would consider them, but this issue is really starting to affect my confidence and I feel so self conscious about my dark circles/eye bags.

Concealer doesn’t do much and I have spent a fortune on all sorts of undereye cream. Tear trough fillers look like they could be the answer but I am terrified of something going wrong (lumpiness, migration, blindness) and have also read that you really need to get cheek filler as well for them to work which feels like a step too far for me.

Has anyone had them done? Did you have to get cheek fillers too? How long did they last? Were there any side effects? Do you think they made a difference?

I had mine done around 18 months ago - so pleased with results, definitely worth it for me - have always had hollow “baggy” eyes

@Clemfandango31 - amazing!!! Have you found the results have lasted well?

@WetBandits thank you for all the detailed info, it’s super helpful.

I will definitely report back on all the details - I don’t know if I will have the option of having the procedure done straight after the consultation (assuming it is right for me and I don’t chicken out!) but will update you regardless.

A (small) update - I had my consultation yesterday and was super impressed with the practitioner. He is very much against doing procedures for the sake of it and fully endorses the “less is more” approach. He took some photos and then we discussed options. He said he would not do tear trough fillers on their own as I need some support in my cheeks first, otherwise the filler will just make my eye bags look worse. He has recommended some very subtle cheek filler just to give me some more support under my eyes, then wait two weeks to see how things settle, and then if needed put in the tiniest amount of tear trough filler to finish things off.

He didn’t want to do the cheek fillers today as it is my first foray into cosmetic procedures and he wanted me to have time to think things through and ask lots of questions, so he has booked me in for an appointment in two weeks time. He has said there is absolutely no issue if I change my mind.

I left feeling very reassured that he knows exactly what he is doing and is clearly very experienced (and he has CQC and Save Face accreditations). I am really looking forward to my appointment and will definitely let you know how it goes and post before and after pics!

Name change here.

I had this done a few years ago and was told, bluntly, that I would get a 50% improvement. I had it done at the Cosmetic Skin Clinic in London by Tracy Mountford. She now has a very long waiting list and isn't taking new clients.
For the record, it cost me around £750 then which was a few years ago.
I got 6 months from it.

She is a real expert and told me they have to be really careful with tear troughs as they can go wrong (in inexperienced hands) and cause serious damage to the eyes.

I was pleased with the results but they didn't last long.

I've found that cheek fillers give good results if your under eye hollows aren't too deep (mine aren't.)

I'd only go somewhere very reputable as there are risks and it needs artistry as well as medical knowledge. I get about 12-18 months from cheek fillers but they cost around £850 for 1ml. The last lot I had done cost me over £1K. Most of the practitioners at the clinic are drs or dentists.

CounterQueen · 17/01/2023 19:08

Thanks @LookingatMe - that’s all extremely helpful and I agree with all the points you make about safety. I’m looking at shelling out close to £1k too but I would rather pay the money and have someone who knows their stuff (my practitioner is a qualified dentist and has 15+ years cosmetic experience, mostly at a Harley Street clinic but has recently set up on his own). I made enquiries with some local beauty places which were a lot cheaper but had no medical staff and no safety/quality accreditations. I would be happy to use them for facials but nothing beyond that.

Great that you have found good results with cheek fillers - I am hoping for the same!

I have these booked for next month but I'm not sure if I'll go through with it. Considering just getting a tiny amount of cheek filler instead.

CounterQueen · 06/03/2023 12:58

Just realised I never updated! Well - I ended up getting cheek fillers (1 ml each side) and I LOVE them!!! It hasn’t removed my circles/bags but has definitely reduced them and they are nowhere near as pronounced. I still look like me, just a lot more rested :-) my practitioner strongly advised against doing my tear troughs in the end as she said there was a huge risk it would just make the bags look worse. I will try to work out how to upload some photos…

Who did you go to please?

Dingdong99 · 06/03/2023 21:07

Can anyone recommend someone good in London? South London if possible

corriefan88 · 06/03/2023 22:50

I hope to have a consultation in the next few months for tear trough filler. I have also heard of a hybrid filler called Juvelook Eyes that could be worth looking into

Mine were quite bad. Please excuse the no makeup look in the after photo but it gives you a good idea - they've literally disappeared.

I've had them 3 times now and they last a good 18 months in me.

I always use a qualified dr or plastic surgeon. My dr is a go too! Also look for them being members of 'save face' if they are save face accredited then they will be properly qualified.

Do it OP you won't regret it and the results are instant.

These are great results Is it still the same go and his wife you go too?!

Ive recently started a course of Lumi Eye, hoping for great results

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 30/03/2023 16:51

It was the same for me. I go to a very experienced surgeon who was also an NHS consultant burns and plastic surgeon. He wasn’t keen on doing tear trough fillers and advised me to have cheek fillers instead which I did. I too love them. They have made an amazing difference and I now don’t have hollow under-eyes either.

QueenConsort · 30/03/2023 16:55

Please can you let me know where you went? I want this done but want an honest Dr and don't mind travelling

Greenshake · 30/03/2023 16:56

I have a consultation tonight at 6 🙂

Speedweed · 30/03/2023 19:09

My consultant dermatologist doesn't do tear trough fillers, because there is a risk of instant blindness, he explained to me. (He also believes problems are massively underreported, but that's another issue).

This isn't my derm, but is a good explanation:

Blindness following dermal fillers? How does this happen and what can be done?
