Tear trough fillers

I am sick of looking tired. I have always had hollows under my eyes but with getting older (I’m now 40), having two non-sleeping children and losing a bit of weight they are looking more pronounced than ever. I’ve never had any cosmetic procedures and never thought that I would consider them, but this issue is really starting to affect my confidence and I feel so self conscious about my dark circles/eye bags.

Concealer doesn’t do much and I have spent a fortune on all sorts of undereye cream. Tear trough fillers look like they could be the answer but I am terrified of something going wrong (lumpiness, migration, blindness) and have also read that you really need to get cheek filler as well for them to work which feels like a step too far for me.

Has anyone had them done? Did you have to get cheek fillers too? How long did they last? Were there any side effects? Do you think they made a difference?

Had mine done a year ago and love the results. They are still going strong. Results were instant. No shadows and hollows, and made me look younger. I didn’t have cheek fillers.

CounterQueen · 10/01/2023 13:21

Thanks @Shitfather - really good to know! I think I need to bite the bullet and make an appointment for an assessment…

I have fillers but eye hollow fillers are just too scary for me. Hope it goes well.

Agree it's brilliant marketing for Chinese New Year for the South East Asian Market.

Mercurial123 · 10/01/2023 13:54

Sorry, wrong thread

TokenGinger · 10/01/2023 14:03

I've had them and don't regret it! This is just after one treatment, she did advise mine were particularly bad and needed two treatments but then found out I was pregnant so I'll go back probably when baby is around 6 months (or when I'm back on full pay 😂)

Thanks @TokenGinger - you look amazing (both before and after!). Gosh, if yours are “bad” mine will be “horrific”…🙁

Thanks @purpledalmation - they seem a bit scary to me too! Is it just the fact that they are so close to the eyes that you don’t like?

I've thought about this aswell

NothingBut · 10/01/2023 15:12

It hardly made any difference to me and it was very expensive and quite an unpleasant procedure. I wouldn’t do it again.

AlexandraJJ · 10/01/2023 15:14

I’ve had both a few times although in need of redoing. Loved the effect and lasted 18 months to 2 years. Expensive but worth it.

TurtleTriplets · 10/01/2023 15:14

I am considering this. I hate y dark circles and hollow under eyes'

tulips27 · 10/01/2023 15:16

What about fat transfer instead? Avoids the risks of fillers.

Same for me.

It's very expensive and I think that's why so many practitioners will readily do it on people who don't need it, you'll also see lots of recommendations compared to cheaper fillers/botox threads <cynical >.

On reflection I don't think I was a suitable candidate- I had good drainage and no puffiness but my eyes weren't hollow or dark enough, I was told it would help with a couple of barely noticeable fine lines (which is simply not true, and the lines are practically gone now through extra sleep, and hydration and skincare).

I had mine dissolved as one side was lumpy and the whole appearance, both sides, was crepey and I had puffy eyes where before I'd had none. They also started to, and I've seen this in others (which is possibly one of a couple of reasons why cheek fillers as scaffolding are recommended first) push down the skin just under my cheekbones and make the front part of my cheeks look flatter, and started to accentuate my nasolabial folds and push them down.

I wouldn't have them again. Do check before and after pictures when you choose someone the difference is usually barely imperceptible except by the client.

Sorry to be negative but I did want to share for balance.

Hi could I ask what skincare you used to go rid of the fine lines? I’ve noticed a few developing and would like to get a grip on them before they get worse.

StarCourt · 10/01/2023 16:02

I had mine done and loved the result, it wasn't painful just a weird sensation.
I was 53 and had quite dark hollows.

Of course! I used argireline serum (can be used on eye area), and occasionally rose hip oil. It may have been the hydration, plus extra exercise and sleep that helped just as much. They haven't gone entirely but they're not at all noticeable and they've probably been there since my 20s and I was just looking for things to fix.

Aftereightlatte · 10/01/2023 18:01

Thank you I had never heard of that before but googled it and it looks just what I’m after. Is there any particular brand you use and could recommend? I’m the same noticed them appearing in my late 20s but recently feel they are getting worse and more pronounced looking.

MabelMoo23 · 10/01/2023 21:48

I’ve had Botox and my practitioner is an ex dentist (as opposed to a random beautician) and I asked her about TT fillers.

she said to me sometimes cheek filler is all you need as it restores “scaffolding” to the face so to speak. The hollows are reduced as the cheek area is plumper again

AgathaX · 10/01/2023 22:02

I've been having them done for around 10 years now. I go once a year. Some years I will get upper cheek fillers done, for scaffolding as another poster said, other years tear troughs, but so far never both. I don't have a lot put in and mine were fairly bad when I started. I'm mid 50s now. It really does make a difference to my face and more importantly for me, my self confidence.

Wagsandclaws · 10/01/2023 22:10

Mine were quite bad. Please excuse the no makeup look in the after photo but it gives you a good idea - they've literally disappeared.

I've had them 3 times now and they last a good 18 months in me.

I always use a qualified dr or plastic surgeon. My dr is a go too! Also look for them being members of 'save face' if they are save face accredited then they will be properly qualified.

Do it OP you won't regret it and the results are instant.

Mine need doing. But I can’t afford it. Maybe one day!

HashBrownandBeans · 10/01/2023 22:17

I absolutely love mine, they last about a year, it’s quite subtle but I wear a lot less makeup now
