Tear trough fillers

I am sick of looking tired. I have always had hollows under my eyes but with getting older (I’m now 40), having two non-sleeping children and losing a bit of weight they are looking more pronounced than ever. I’ve never had any cosmetic procedures and never thought that I would consider them, but this issue is really starting to affect my confidence and I feel so self conscious about my dark circles/eye bags.

Concealer doesn’t do much and I have spent a fortune on all sorts of undereye cream. Tear trough fillers look like they could be the answer but I am terrified of something going wrong (lumpiness, migration, blindness) and have also read that you really need to get cheek filler as well for them to work which feels like a step too far for me.

Has anyone had them done? Did you have to get cheek fillers too? How long did they last? Were there any side effects? Do you think they made a difference?

I loved my results, my hollows were looking quite deep. Still going strong 1 1/2 years later. I didn't find it painful at all...

I’ve had Botox and my practitioner is an ex dentist (as opposed to a random beautician) and I asked her about TT fillers.

she said to me sometimes cheek filler is all you need as it restores “scaffolding” to the face so to speak. The hollows are reduced as the cheek area is plumper again

Yes, they do suggest trying cheek fillers first I think and before nasolabial filler. Though I already have high cheekbones (heart shaped face) so they're definitely not needed for me.

Thank you I had never heard of that before but googled it and it looks just what I’m after. Is there any particular brand you use and could recommend? I’m the same noticed them appearing in my late 20s but recently feel they are getting worse and more pronounced looking.

I just use The Ordinary argireline. Rose hip oil I'd imagine any sort will do, but I only use that occasionally.

I cannot work out if tear trough fillers will solve my problem. My eyes feel droopy and almost bag-y (although they don’t have pouches). I can see dark circles under the skin - but they are not hollow.

Does anyone know if I’m a suitable candidate?

TheChosenTwo · 10/01/2023 23:11

Ooh this is the only kind of treatment I have ever considered as it’s just not the kind of thing creams etc can fix and I think mine are getting worse.
can’t be arsed with make up but think this would just freshen my face up a bit (damn teams video calls mean I see my face far more often than I would like 😂), can I be nosey and ask how much you’ve paid if you’ve had it? Also, whereabouts exactly do they inject it? And can you keep your eyes closed or do you need them to be open so they can see if it’s working?!

TheChosenTwo · 10/01/2023 23:38

Fuck that, I retract my earlier statement, just watched a couple of YouTube videos and there’s no way needles of that size are coming anywhere near me unless they contain lifesaving medication!!!!!

You really cannot feel it! They numb the initial area, then the filler contains a numbing agent also so it numbs as it goes in. It’s a little scratchy at first, that’s it.

I paid 650 for mine.

TheChosenTwo · 11/01/2023 08:07

Thanks @Shitfather - not as much as I thought! Had in mind that it would be more than double that for some reason.
Ahh @HashBrownandBeans I’m sure everything you’ve said is right but it’s still a big fat no fucking way for me 😂 saved myself a few quid! And also, it’s other people who see my face more than me so it’s not really my problem! Maybe I’ll turn my camera off during team meetings! (Not really, unless there are loads of people in them we are encouraged to have camera on where possible)

Thank you all so much for your stories (both good and bad!) and photos- @Wagsandclaws your results look fab and so natural which is exactly what I would be hoping for.

It has given me some food for thought as to whether a tiny bit of cheek filler might give me what I am after - but I will discuss that with the practitioner when I (finally) book a consultation.

Random question (and I appreciate it may differ from place to place) - is the initial consultation usually just to discuss options/what might be suitable, and then do you book a later appointment to have the procedure done? Or do they do it there and then?

Normally they would
Discuss your requirements with you and then if you wanted to proceed you could get it done there and then.

Thank you Op I woke my be without them as well a few few other tweaks. I've never found it painful and if you are anywhere near Somerset I'd
Be happy to give you the details of my practitioner, he's very experienced and very good Smile

Good luck Op come back and show us your before and afters.

23BetterBeGood · 11/01/2023 11:00

I've also been intrigued by this treatment OP. Couple of years younger than you, but my under eyes are really starting to bother me and I often look in the mirror and sigh. Seems to have come from nowhere! I have the great combination of hollow and puffy, so I'm not even sure I'm a great candidate! Just ordered yet another eye cream, which I'm 99% sure won't work, but my desperation makes that 1% worth the crazy £££! 😬🤦🏻‍♀️

I had my consultation then procedure straight away.

They tend to use a tiny cannula these days, rather than a needle. The cannula insertion is lower down around the cheek area and is then fixed to the correct area. Apparently this is safer than using a needle directly into the tear trough. So the 'large needle' you saw may be the cannula rather than a needle.

AgathaX · 13/01/2023 15:46

That should read guided to the correct area, not fixed

I relate to this so much!! Always on the search for the magic eye cream…which I sadly haven’t found yet 🙁

I have bitten the bullet and have a consultation with an ex-Harley Street, Save Face registered practitioner next week…I am feeling both terrified and excited 😬

TurtleTriplets · 13/01/2023 21:02

Please please please post your before and after a if you get it done. I am debating this!

Greenshake · 13/01/2023 21:10

Oh I am so interested to hear how this goes OP as I am really thinking about this 🙂

Clemfandango31 · 13/01/2023 21:36

I had mine done around 18 months ago - so pleased with results, definitely worth it for me - have always had hollow “baggy” eyes

The before and after pictures posted here are very impressive, I am sure this would sort out my hollow dark under eye area which makes me look permanently unwell. Would anyone who has it done mind sharing how much you paid for the procedure? Many thanks

Greenshake · 13/01/2023 22:55

And please be honest…how painful is it?

WetBandits · 13/01/2023 23:03

I had them last year and absolutely LOVED them. I did have a small lump under one eye (couldn’t see it but I could feel it) but I went back to my aesthetics practitioner and she massaged the lump out with a vibrating face smoother and had no problems since.

They’ve mostly worn off now but I would 100% have it done again.

WetBandits · 13/01/2023 23:06

Questions re pain: I found it completely painless. My practitioner used the cannula technique so once the initial needlestick was over (and that wasn’t at all sore), all I felt was a very slight tugging sensation, plus it was a really quick procedure.

No downtime at all, not even a hint of bruising. In comparison, I look like I’ve been punched when I have my lips done and bruise like a peach if I even slightly knock my arm or leg.

If you do decide to have the procedure, be very choosy about your practitioner and make sure they have lots of experience, positive reviews and photos of previous work.

GruffaloCrumble28 · 13/01/2023 23:17

@Wagsandclaws You look fantastic! I live nearby and if possible would love the details of where you went etc please 😊
