Outfit for a destination wedding

I am invited to a wedding overseas in the summer. It will be really hot and dry. There will be lots of walking on grass and sand, so I need suitable shoes.

Also, there will be lots of stylish European ladies there and so I need a really nice dress. I don't want to dress like I am going to Ascot. I am thinking long maxi dress, a bit boho. My budget for the dress is £300ish as I want something gorgeous to wear again.

Has anyone been to an OS wedding? What did you wear? Any recommendations for the dress idea? I want to dress up and look FAB for a change.

Yes I would agree with a maxi dress, you could probably get away with flat sandals if it's quite a relaxed vibe. What height, size and age are you? What's your usual style? Colours you like and dislike?

Hot & dry... I'd go in silk.

Silk is rubbish when it's hot - it's quite warm itself, and shows sweat like no one's business. A silk/cotton mix would be better.

5 ft 4”, size 10, a bit busty, age 40. I’m not tall, but I’ve worn long dresses before and they are fine.

What's your bra situation? Can you handle halterneck/racer back?

MensisIanuarius · 10/01/2023 20:31

Yes I can handle halter neck and racer back.

She said it's going to be hot and dry, she will bake alive in that!

( sorry quoted wrong person before)

I wore a maxi dress with a tropical print and flat gladiator type sandals

Linen? Jessika allen

I went to a wedding in Greece and went for loose, floaty and flat gold sandals. I was so glad I didn't wear heels or anything too fitted!

MensisIanuarius · 11/01/2023 08:40

I don't get the opportunity to dress up much, so I want to look glamorous.
I like these dresses, but not sure if they would come out of the package looking like this at these prices.

These are the type of things I think I would like to try on. I love the idea of the gold gladiator sandals.

I love this but obviously, I can't wear white/ cream to a wedding.

Love it

WRT the last dress, the white one, I have worn that shape before and it looked really nice on. I also have long tousled hair which goes well with long earrings. I like the casual/ comfy look but also feel done up. I used to have a dress like this in cobalt blue and I loved it.

Just seen they do it in pink and royal blue. Is pink too bridesmaidish?

You need a fabulous clutch bag too.

KimmySchmitt · 11/01/2023 09:17

If your budget is £300 don't even look at Light in the Box/Ali Express, it's cheap shite that is unlikely to look like the photos and will be 100% polyester so you'll sweat. I can't see your last link to the white dress. It it's going to be very hot I'd avoid long sleeves. Can you tell us rough location/temperature, and when the wedding is? You might be better waiting a bit, the shops don't seem to have their summer stock in so there's less choice.

Yes the pink is definitely too like a bridesmaid, also it looks like man made material so not great for a hot climate.

Whataretheodds · 11/01/2023 14:26

I think there will be more that comes out as the spring/summer collections start landing.

Agree with your budget you can do better than light in the box / ali express.

I've had beautiful floaty glam summer dresses from bcbg max azria before but that was a few years ago. Keep an eye on wolf & badger and the outnet.

Would you consider hiring something?
