New glasses - pink frames. Mistake?

Needed a new pair of frames and fancied something a bit more 'jazzy' (have standard black pair with metal sides currently). I felt brave and ordered a deep pink colour.
DH just said I'll look like Sue Pollard and now I'm full of regret.

What do you think of coloured frames? Have I made a poor choice?
I saw someone wearing a pair recently and thought they looked cool. I'm 40.

They sound amazing! Great to choose something to stand out a bit and wear something fun! I bet you'll look amazing

Need a photo!

RedPandaFluff · 09/01/2023 20:47

I bought a purple pair recently and have regrets, but I think it's more the style of frame than colour. I think it will depend on the individual glasses - can you share a pic?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 09/01/2023 20:50

I think it probably depends on your overall style. I used to wear purple frames, which brightened up my overall blue/black/grey wardrobe. Coloured frames plus lots of bright clothes is Su Pollard/Christopher Buggins territory.

There's a guy who works in a local shop who wears royal blue frames, with grey/white hair and beard, which look grear. Again, he otherwise wears quite plain/muted colours.

I’ve nearly always had coloured frames, currently pink, have had teal, animal print, pink and purple…
black frames don’t suit me at all!

jevoudrais · 09/01/2023 20:51

Have you got a photo of the style?

I got some new ones recently with a light coloured, thin gold metal frame. Other 'fashionable' ones seem to be largely transparent frames but they didn't suit me very well. I am not into bold colours myself, but mainly because I feel they're too intense on my face. I also don't like square lenses and prefer very round ones. No idea if I am fashionable or not though! I'm 30.

If you like them, that's the main thing I think.

ladyinthecampervan · 09/01/2023 20:52

I think they’ll be nice! My friend has plum coloured specs and they really suit her.

I just bought new ones. Pink 😃 only one person has even noticed them. My previous ones were brown.

tootiredtodrinkgin · 09/01/2023 20:53

Not a mistake at all! I wear glasses, I have several pairs (good old specsavers but one get one free) if you're a regular wearer it's nice to have different colours, you wear different outfits/colours everyday, why would you not consider your glasses part of your outfit or accessories?! Keep the pink, you got you old black ones, now order some other colours and styles too!

11yo DS has pink frames and I flipping love them.

And what's wrong with Su Pollard anyway?

I do like more unusual frames, but I don't know if I would have them for my 'all the time ' glasses, probably more as an accessory to be worn occasionally. But if you like them, wear them with pride and pleasure.

SiobhanSharpe · 09/01/2023 20:58

I have several multi coloured frames, purple with pink sides, tortoiseshell with yellow orange sides, a black and cream 'animal' design and a yellow/orange stripey pair.
But all the frames are quite delicate looking, not at all like the thick and heavy 'Su Pollard' red ones. (I think more delicate frames are more usual these days.)
I'm quite a bit older than you, too...

DrEllie · 09/01/2023 20:58

I love Su Pollard (and other funky colour glasses wearer Pru Leith). If you like them you wear them. Can we see a pic (just of the glasses if you don't want to take a photo of yourself?)

Do you normally admire your DH's sense of style? I'm not man bashing but if he plays it safe, does his comment really matter? I'd go with your gut and try the pink ones. I've recently experimented with different shapes and colours, including a transparent pair which I thought were too cool for me (also 40) and have had lots of compliments. So go for it!
