Gel nails question

I recently bought myself a gel nail kit as I don’t like going to have them done in a salon. If I just wanted clear polish would I just use the base and top coats without a colour coat in the middle?
I assume I need to use a gel polish for the colour layer and regular nail varnish won’t work? I have a regular nail varnish I love the colour of but it chips so easily.

If you want clear add the base and the top coat and it will be clear. Cure in the lamp as normal.

you can put nail polish on and top with the top coat under the lamp just make sure the nail colour is totally dry first before adding top coat and cure as normal. Be aware it won’t be as tough as gel colour though.

Yes top and base coat. I have loads of normal varnish and just use that over the top, remove with non acetone remover and your clear gel base will still be there.
