Has anyone ever had their colours done? Was it worth it?

supadupapupascupa · 06/01/2023 22:12

Yes. And absolutely worth every penny

Winterwonderland4 · 06/01/2023 22:13

I had mine done about 25 years ago and still stick to the recommendations re the colours I should wear. I’ve had no mistake buys in terms of colour since then. Now if I could just lose a stone I’ve got some lovely clothes

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 06/01/2023 22:17

Absolutely! I was sceptical and my sister took me for my birthday. It was so much more helpful than I could have imagined. When I go shopping now I can just look straight through the stuff that I know won't suit me, my wardrobe is more versatile as the colour palette has more compatible colourways (nothing looks bad with anything else) than it did when I was buying colours cos I liked them and not cos they liked me. It's saved me a fortune by avoiding bad buys, I get a lot of compliments like 'you look good in that' which is basically cos the colour 'lifts' me.

SummerSazz · 06/01/2023 22:19

Yes, absolutely and had my DD's colours done too. It simplifies shopping trips no end!!!

I'm a sultry winter and DD's burnished winter and jewel winter. Did it with house of colour with a lady who was a dancer in the 60's - I think she'd led an extraordinary life 😄

multivac · 06/01/2023 22:27

I was so sceptical... and it was such a game changer! I'd been worried about being limited, boxed, stereotyped - and it was exactly the opposite!

If you are already confident with clothes, style and colour, maybe it wouldn't be a big deal. But in my 50s, I am enjoying clothes for the first time in my life!

House of Colour for me.

multivac · 06/01/2023 22:28

(And am a Blue Autumn 🍁)

Toothpastestain · 06/01/2023 22:40

I'm a cool, sultry, winter. Had my colours done, with House of Colour, 25 years ago, superb!

FinallyHere · 06/01/2023 22:48

Pale pastel blue autumn here.

I'm not naturally very fashion or even style savvy so although the analysis was brilliant it took me a good few years to really have only things that looked good on me and were fun to wear in my wardrobe.

Decades later, my entire wardrobe coordinates. I don't spend much time or money on clothes but have something that I know looks good on me for every occasion. Its great to know what is right for me anytime I see it. And when to not bother looking because there is nothing in a shop that will work for me.

Also use Dylon machine dyes so that even my casual clothes are perfect colours and shapes for me.

Honestly, I'm on record as saying that colour and style analysis has done much more for my confidence even than my MBA.

I'd encourage anyone to try it.

FinallyHere · 06/01/2023 22:48

For the record House of Colour in the 1990's

crochetcrazy1978 · 06/01/2023 22:52

Well you've all sold me! Where's good to get it done ?

MaverickGooseGoose · 06/01/2023 22:53

Didn't realise they still existed my mum had it done back in the early 90s.

dontknowwhatisbest · 06/01/2023 23:38

Yep, with House of Colour. Brilliant.

I was so impressed I did the style class too, which is even more freakishly accurate! I still don't understand how she did it but my consultant just 'got' the style that suited me and suddenly it all fell in to place why some things looked unexpectedly good on me and other things that I desperately wanted to look amazing on me just didn't work and looked absolutely terrible.

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 07/01/2023 07:10

Yes, house of colour here too. Really brilliant. I need to do the style one next as I've changed shape and I'm so lost, I used to be able to look at something and know if it would f look good but not anymore. 😞

SunUpSunDown · 07/01/2023 07:23

Ooh, I got given a colour analysis session for Christmas. This thread has made me very excited for it!

Moonpies · 07/01/2023 12:56

I had mine done few months ago and then I saw in the pre-Christmas sale a good offer in etsy so thought to see if it comes out the same. But they analysed me for something complete different... Maybe I'll need to go for a third option.

SunUpSunDown · 22/01/2023 15:51

I thought I'd pop back on here just to update, as I had my House of Colour analysis yesterday...and consequently I've had a bit of an identity crisis! I've practically lived in blacks, whites, and greys for years now (I'm in my forties), but it turns out I'm an Autumn. I had it completely wrong, and when I saw the right colours against my skin, it was like an absolute revelation. I've never worn yellow, as I literally thought I couldn't...just gone out this afternoon and bought a yellow jumper, and it looks fab on me. If anyone is dithering about having it done, I would highly recommend it. It will make putting together a wardrobe so much easier going forward. I knew exactly what suited me style-wise (shapes, etc.), as I had an intuitive feel for it, but bizarrely I had no idea with colours, and that's probably why I was never completely happy with what I was wearing.

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 22/01/2023 16:20

Fantastic! I was similar, thought I couldn't wear yellow... Turns out I can wear mustard/autumn yellow, just not lemon yellow or hot yellow. So worth doing. 💛

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 22/01/2023 16:20

Enjoy your fabulous new jumper and all the great compliments it brings. 😍

Ah, thank you so much @CleopatrasBeautifulNose and glad you discovered yellow too!

tappinginto2023 · 22/01/2023 17:08

@SunUpSunDown that sounds amazing!

Do you get fabric swatches to take with you for shopping? I struggle to work out if a pink (for example) suits me - some do, some don't but I can't work out why?

Yes, I did, although I think that rather than going for an exact match, it's more about the underlying tones if that makes sense. I laid the swatches over the top of the fabrics and looked for a 'blending' effect. If you can work out what suits you, I think that's the battle right there, so sounds like you have nailed it!

YellowHpok · 22/01/2023 17:32

Oh this is so exciting! I was very sceptical but am going to have a look now. I really like the idea ofbhaving a wardrobe of coordinates!

YourTruthorMine · 22/01/2023 17:39

I worked mine out in the 90s from an ancient House Of Color book. I try to stick to my clear spring brights. Have worked out all the family's too, although DH refuses to wear anything bright, sticking to drab greys and dark blue (he's an autumn)

RampantIvy · 22/01/2023 17:45

Yes and yes. In fact I have had them done twice 30 years apart. The first time HOC only had just the four seasons and no sub divisions. I was assessed as winter the first time and jewel winter the second time.

The main revelation was that I really suit emerald green. I don't bother going shopping in autumn because the shops are full of autumnal colours that just don't suit me.
