Has anyone ever had their colours done? Was it worth it?

Not everyone has your clarity of vision @MacsJ, and nothing can beat having the scarves of the same colour but of different tones draped on you.

I had it done after DD2. I thought I would be winter, lived in black and jewel colours. Turns out I'm a dark and warm Autumn, initially I was gutted, hated all the sludge colours. I've grown to love my autumness and the simplicity of everything matching. I ended up replacing everything, I only had black shoes and bags and white gold jewellery.

Similar story here. I felt grey and navy washed me out and made me look older tbh but I didn't know what the alternative might be. Now my main 'neutral' is dark green, a properly dark, sludgy, pond water green, similar to (but warmer and less flat than) faded black. It brings my features into focus.

I had a HOC analysis and it was a waste of money. I already knew what sub season I'd be and I was right. There's so many free resources now available on YouTube and websites I would try and work it out myself before wasting the money on a consultation.

Also hoc is a franchise and I know some are mums who post here so I wouldn't trust all the previous comments. Also because hoc is a franchise hq don't really help much if you've had a bad experience with your stylist.

I absolutely couldn't do it myself; and in fact, it was a long process on the day, as I'm not an obvious autumn, and the consultant started off in a completely different direction before realising her assumptions had been wrong. It all came together eventually though, and it was through making LOTS of very specific and precise comparisons.

And neither I, nor any member of my family, have any commercial interest in the HoC franchise Grin.

I would like to get this done, just looked how much, £240. Just to get your colours done, does anyone know of a cheaper way.

It's expensive for sure. Mine was a gift from more than one person who chipped in; and four of us clubbed together to get it for my sister. Sometimes you can get a deal if you book as a small group - but all I can say is, it was totally worth it for us. I only buy clothes that work for me now, for a start - and the boost to my self-esteem/confidence has been priceless.

Sorry to hear you felt your experience was a waste of money. If you knew your season and subset what did you hope to gain from the session?
As a pp said some of us are less straightforward to analyse.
My session wasn't with HoC (or any franchise) and I'm not affiliated with them in any way.
Dh said my mum (a soft autumn) went from looking a bit fragile (in her 'before' colours) to looking like she sat on the board of the Guggenheim 😀 and was so impressed that he booked his own session, also with an independent (not HoC) consultant. He says it was life changing.
My mum is an artist (as is DH's dad) and very confident and proficient with colour, all three of us have creative backgrounds but were unable to predict our results or get there on our own.

It was totally worth it for me.

Growing up with a mother and sister who loved style and fashion, and seemed to know instinctively what worked for them (and me) but could never explain anything about the seemingly magic process, I had resigned myself to being useless at 'this sort of thing'.

Knowing what would look good and having a wardrobe of clothes and accessories that all worked together and could produce a pulled together outfit for any occasion seemed an impossible dream for me, while seemingly effortless for them.

I was lucky enough to find a consultant who started in theatre design, making people age over the course of a single evening. The colour consultancy ran alongside a made made to measure clothes business.

She was able to explain the 'rules' very simply snd answer any question I ever had. Made planning my wedding and decorating my house so easy, too.

Nowadays, I know the rules for me so well that I don't even think about it. I would never buy anything with a high neck or something that was wide across the hips or in a colour out of 'my' range. I spend next to no time finding clothes in shops or online, it's so obvious what will work for me. I have a good outfit for any occasion, I enjoy putting on my clothes because they are so me.

All thanks to colour / style analysis.

I'm on record as saying that colour and style bring me way more benefits than even my MBA.

Of course, there will always people who know this stuff without needing any help with how it works. I'm like that with computers and needed help with clothes. I was very glad to find that such help exists.

Oh, and DH went to be analysed just to humour me and then ended up convinced that there was something in it, when his Italian colleagues admired his style and admitted they all needed help from their wives to know how to look stylish.

It helped a bit that the consultant said he was 'cool' and very different to me, so never to listen to my advice 😁

I had mine done few months ago and then I saw in the pre-Christmas sale a good offer in etsy so thought to see if it comes out the same. But they analysed me for something complete different... Maybe I'll need to go for a third option.

I'm a colour analyst and was browsing the forum for market research purposes. It really is almost impossible to accurately determine someone's season online due to the way peoples cameras automatically adjust settings.

I think Carol Brailey might have the technology to overcome this issue, and possibly also Created Colorful. However, you will see the extra effort reflected in their prices. They are not providing these services more cheaply than any local consultant you have access to. Certainly not for £35 like some businesses/people.

In regards to etsy. I actually analysed a girl who went on to sell colour analysis on etsy without any legitimate training or quals.

It's only worth the money, if the analyst gets it right.
