Posted accidentally on my other thread.

I think my problem is I wear a lot of ditsy style tops and bright colours but i still dont feel coordinated. In terms of current wardrobe

one pair of cropped trousers
one fuschia blazer with gathered sleeves
one coral boucle blazer
one black a line short skirt
one brown a line leather short skirt
lots of patterned ditsy tops
one camel coat
one pink car coat
one boyfriend black coat
shoes : Chelsea boots, long black boots

Can anyone advise on what to buy to bring it all together? Am I missing basics?

Bellagi · 04/01/2023 10:39

@VioletLemon 5ft 7, big boobs (38H), size 16 hourglass.

I think im missing basics like white shirts etc, lots of pretty clothes but cant tie them in together

OP Nobody can tell you what you are missing really as it’s all down to personal preference. If you buy the “classics” so to speak then if they don’t fit with your style you are still going to have a wardrobe that you aren’t 100% happy with. What kinds of ‘looks’ do you like? What kind of vibe are you wanting to chanel? What side of your personality do you want to express through your clothes?

Megan1992xx · 04/01/2023 10:44

take a look at New Look they have some good quality clothes at affordable prices I like the Emily Atak edit

WinnieFosterReads · 04/01/2023 10:45

Group them into colour pallettes and it might be easier to see what you need eg

camel coat; brown skirt, black trousers

coral jacket; fuschia blazer; pink car coat

black coat; black skirt; cropped trousers

You don't say what colour your tops are but put them with the pallette that they complement. Then it will be easier to see the gaps.

Bellagi · 04/01/2023 10:55

@Niftythrifter I like striking outfits myself but would love to channel any sort of dolce gabanna outfit.

@WinnieFosterReads I like the idea of grouping them. I have lots of greens, pinks, yellows, very little black or white. But I'm thinking I need something plain so they all go together?

I'm the same size and height as you and a white (or any other) shirt would look awful on me.
What outfits do you actually make out of that list? By 'ditsy top' I'm imagining 'milkmaid' though may have got the wrong idea.

Bellagi · 04/01/2023 11:08

@Everydaywheniwakeup so ditsy like boden victorian high neck or tie neck tops.

With those outfits, so for work I'd maybe wear a black vest top, black trousers and pink blazer. Basically I try and match the bottom then add a blazer. I'm aware this probably looks dated! I've just bought a long black cardigan to go with the skirts.

I think grey, charcoal and cream might bridge the gap a bit between the colours. Denim?
Tan bag or cream/beige
Gold and silver jewellery.
Black / navy midi length pleated skirt
High heels in nude, black and tan

Ditsy top to me is little floral patterns, casual blouse or top.

Try and stick to 3 colours max per outfit from head to toe. Using the same colour in different shades is something I like... but doesn't really work with black because it can look like one item has been faded through wear.

FlosCampi · 04/01/2023 11:31

Pinterest is useful here. Say you like coloured blazers, search for " coloured blazer outfits", or ( my own last search) " pleated skirt outfits" or whatever, then you'll see some items that look god with them. What you're calling ditsy tops I would just call high- neck blouses, unless they are covered in tiny flower print? Make a Pinterest board and save the pictures, or reverse image search for similar items in the shops eg suede biker jackets to go with the pleated skirts. You can add plus size/ curvy to your search.

NeverGonnaNot · 04/01/2023 11:36

Yes agree with using Pinterest and making your own boards. You could search ‘pink coat outfits’ and get lots of ideas and save the ones you like. I just did it for ‘red trousers.’ It doesn’t sound as if it would be your style to wear black and white so don’t!

WinnieFosterReads · 04/01/2023 12:22

You don't need something plain to bring them together. I understand the impulse to think a white blouse is a staple but honestly although I have one, I never wear it. I do wear high neck blouses, pussy bow blouses. I like 'interesting' sleeves so also puff sleeves, bell sleeves, sleeves with buttoned cuffs, etc. I have blouses in stripes, florals, bold colours. Your clothes don't need to be dull to be co-ordinated.
A pp's suggestion to look at Pinterest is good. Another option is to look at celebrities (with a similar body shape to you) whose style you admire and breakdown what works.

Bellagi · 04/01/2023 12:36

@WinnieFosterReads that's exactly it, an impulse to get staples/basics to bring stuff together! Black and white shirts etc.

For me I wouldn't wear black trousers/skirt with a pink or coral blazer. What about a dark denim skirt or jeans. Or navy, dark grey, burgundy or forest green trousers or skirt!

This sounds very stylish actually. I shy away from colourful bottoms if im honest

What is your colouring? If you look online and try and figure out if you’re winter/summer etc then you can look for a base colour within that to go for instead of black.

With the clothes you describe I can imagine browns, tan, camel. Also steel grey and khaki. All could work instead of black and imo all those look better with bold colours.

Also agree with pp mixing things up with some additional stronger colours- forest green and hot pink look fabulous for instance. ❤️
