When do girls feet stop growing ?

My DD has size 5 feet and she's in year 5. I'm getting worried her feet are going to end up huge and she won't be able to buy nice shoes. It's already a challenge purchasing shoes that don't look too grown up. Can anybody tell me what age they stop growing ??

After periods start, although they do slow down. Dd had size 4 feet in y5, and at 15 is a 6.

hernameis · 27/12/2022 13:17

They'll likely stop when she's 18. Kids have growth spurts though so it may seem like feet are getting longer but she's not much taller and then the opposite will happen.

From personal experience please don't make a fuss of it and make her feel self conscious of her foot size. The uk average ladies size is 6 and there are loads of lovely styles in size 5 and above

Models are tall and can have shoe size 8 or more. Nice styles for these sizes are much easier to find now!

Danikm151 · 27/12/2022 13:19

I was a size 5 in year 6 then my feet went down to a 4 at around 14- coincided with weight loss.
been a 4 ever since.

don’t worry too much there are loads of shoes in bigger sizes. I get annoyed when all that is left is a size 8 or 9!

MerryChristmasToYou · 27/12/2022 13:32

At age 12 I was a size 2.5. Went up gradually to a size 4 age 15. in my 40s they grew to a size 5, and have stayed that size. My weight hasn't changed much.

RuthW · 27/12/2022 13:37

My dd didn't get any bigger once she was year 6. She's a 6.5 now and mid 20s.

MerryShitemas · 27/12/2022 13:45

I'm the same height and shoe size at 40 as I was at 12.

ronaldcat · 27/12/2022 13:49

My DS is 8 and is a size 4, same as me

My feet were a 5 for most of my life until I lost a stone and went from 9st to 8st

Must have lost it from my feet 🤦🏽‍♀️

LightandMomentary · 27/12/2022 13:51

Mine both stopped at approx 14, They grew in height for another year after that.

StopFeckingFaffing · 27/12/2022 13:53

My DD's feet stopped growing in about Y6 around the same time her periods started

I have size 9 feet. I have to disagree. I have plenty of shoes, but most of the are not "women's". I used to be able to get shoes for most occasions from Clark's, but they have massively cut down their size 9 selection in the last couple of years.

Swissnotswiss · 27/12/2022 13:54

My dd12 is already size 8. It's not true that there are loads of shoes this size. Atm she only has trainers. 😥

pocketvenuss · 27/12/2022 13:55

Feet seem to grow early in my experience. They are a 5 now. They may grow to a 6. That's not a large foot. Even if they grow to a 7 that's not going to be a problem. But they'll probably stop way before this.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/12/2022 13:56

Posted too soon.

Anyway, I was a 9 and adult height (5'8") at nearly 13.

DD is 11, size 8 and 5'4". Stebhss statted her periods though, so not sure how much more she'll grow.

PicturesOfLily · 27/12/2022 13:58

I had size 5 feet when I was in Y3. They stopped at a 9 although recently I’ve tried to buy new work shoes from a couple of different shops and the 9s have been too small. I’m quite tall at 5’11”.

AutumnIsMyFavouriteSeason · 27/12/2022 13:59

I'm size 8 and struggle to find stock of the footwear I like. I don't like buying shoes online as it's a faff to return if they don't fit. However, I find that most stores stock up to size 7, so I think a size 7 woman would have no problem finding great footwear options. My DD is taller than me and one shoe size smaller - so pleased for her!

ohidoliketobe · 27/12/2022 13:59

I had a big growth spurt when I was I year 5/6. I was 5ft 3 and size 5 feet when started high school and didn't grow again until I had one last growth spurt when I was 17, when I reached the 5ft 4 and size 6 I have been since

Ivyy · 27/12/2022 14:41

Nothing wrong with bigger than average feet op, my dm gave me a complex about my size 8 feet when I was a teen. I'm 5.11 though so not sure what she expected! She was sad I couldn't wear "dainty" shoes or didn't want me to wear heels and be too tall etc. It made me so self conscious til I was older and realised how silly it was. I buy my footwear online and have no problems getting the same shoes, trainers, boots as they also stock in sizes 4-7 My dd is size 7 she's also tall like me, we haven't had any problems finding nice footwear appropriate for her age group. So much choice online. For school in September we got her measured in a Clarks store then ordered different styles online, they had plenty of nice styles for girls that included larger sizes and several of her friends have the same school shoes which they quite like, some are smaller sizes, others are larger sizes like my dd at a 7, and one friend an 8, all in the same shoes, no problem!

Fifi00 · 27/12/2022 15:57

DD is summer born so still 9 got a while before she's 10. I just wanted to know if it will slow down. I have size 6 feet it's no problem I just didn't want her to struggle finding shoes when she's older.

13 year old DD is 5ft 9, started menstruating years ago and is still growing as are her feet, she's currently an 8.5. We have never had trouble finding shoes she likes they obviously got expensive fast but so did her clothes as she was in adult clothes by year 6.

My dd had the same size feet the whole way through secondary.

LearnerCook · 27/12/2022 16:32

I always thought your feet grow so they're in proportion for your eventual height.

Please don't make a big deal about it in front of your child. I used to get teased for having big, bony feet and I still feel conscious of them. She doesn't need to get a complex.

WhereAreWeNow · 27/12/2022 16:43

DD's feet were growing really fast at that age too and I worried we would run out of school shoe options. She was 6.5 in Y7. I think she was 7.5 in y8 and they haven't grown since (she's now Y10). I'm hoping they've stopped as it does get harder to find shoes in bigger sizes. I think growth patterns are linked to onset of menstruation. I reckon DD's feet grew for another year after starting her period and then stopped.

GloomyDarkness · 27/12/2022 16:44

Eldest was around 13/4 not sure about DD2 14 may still go up size.

I don't have that many problems with size 8 feet finding shoes - but will say 7 has more choice - eldest is same height as me and is a 7.

MIL is only person who made me feel bad for my foot size but she's a good foot shorter and a size 6 so no idea why she has such an issue.
