When do girls feet stop growing ?

Fifi00 · 27/12/2022 13:07

My DD has size 5 feet and she's in year 5. I'm getting worried her feet are going to end up huge and she won't be able to buy nice shoes. It's already a challenge purchasing shoes that don't look too grown up. Can anybody tell me what age they stop growing ??

Agree @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads . Choices are much more limited once you get beyond the average sizes that most shops stock (3-7 ish).

pocketvenuss · 27/12/2022 17:45

How tall are you and DDs father OP and is DD tall for age?

PeskyYeti · 27/12/2022 17:47

What a strange thing to worry about.

My daughter is 13 and a size 8. I'm not loosing and sleep about it Smile

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 27/12/2022 17:54

DD13 is a 6 and I think she's probably finished growing now. But my Mum, my 2 sisters and my MIL and SIL all have between size 7 and 8 feet.

DD10 is a size 3, I suspect she'll end up a size 6. Currently the only part of her growing is her legs! She went from a proper short arse to full on legs for days. But with no waist, trouser shopping is challenging.

I am a size 3 shoe, and have been a 3 for as long as I can remember.

Nosecamera · 27/12/2022 18:03

Maybe she'll have a different idea if what is a nice shoe when she grows up, it might be a non problem.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/12/2022 18:18

@Ivyy

For school in September we got her measured in a Clarks store then ordered different styles online, they had plenty of nice styles for girls that included larger sizes and several of her friends have the same school shoes which they quite like, some are smaller sizes, others are larger sizes like my dd at a 7, and one friend an 8, all in the same shoes, no problem!

It's above 8 that it starts getting problematic

Sunnytwobridges · 27/12/2022 18:50

My DDs feet grew until she was 14 almost 15. She had a growth spurt that year. She wears a size 8/8.5. I will admit that ever since she was about 10/11 it was hard to find little girl shoes for her, she had to wear women's shoes. And once she hit the 8/8.5 it was tough to find dressier shoes. However she's never been girly so it became less of an issue except for special occasions, then we are running around like crazy trying to find something cute that fits and don't hurt her feet lol

Anewhoo · 27/12/2022 19:11

I think more retailers are making large women’s sizes now, especially online. Shoes are becoming less gendered, so they cater for more sizes.

Fifi00 · 27/12/2022 19:23

I have no problem if she has very large feet she's beautiful. I'm wondering about the practicalities of it. I know shoes normally range in size from 3-8 for females. Nobody wants their DC to struggle anymore than they have too, she's quite girly likes sandals etc. I don't have tiny feet myself 6-7 depending on my weight. She's now 145cm height 9 years old summer born. Clothes size 12-13 she's tall for age , I suspect puberty is starting.

My 12 year old has size 8 feet. She's currently eating everything in sight so we're expecting them to get bigger soon.

Please make sure you're not inadvertently making her feel bad about something she can't change.

bumpyknuckles · 27/12/2022 21:36

I agree with pps - don't make a thing out of it. I am the tall, well-built daughter of a petite mother. As a teenager, my mum used to go on and on about the size of my feet (size 7), and compare them to hers (size 3). For my mum, my 'big' feet were symbolic of my lumpishness compared to her delicate, dainty femininity. She was definitely disappointed that I wasn't more like her in appearance, and made little passive-aggressive 'observations' about it all the time.

You can get shoes in a variety of sizes on the internet. I wouldn't worry about it. My old housemate had size 9 feet and had lots of feminine shoes.

bumpyknuckles · 27/12/2022 22:03

By the way, a quick look on the Next website suggests that there are 1836 items of women's shoes available in a size 9. 330 in a size 10. In fact, rather impressively they have 91 size 13 items, including strappy heels.

HideyHoe · 28/12/2022 10:19

I get that you are looking out for your DD but make sure you don't make her feel sensitive about it, hold your tongue back.
She might end up with size 7 feet. I think it gets harder when you are 9uk or over. My feet reached their adult size at 13 and I also didn't grow taller since. I think my period started when I was 11.

CharitySchmarity · 28/12/2022 10:20

I always thought mine stopped growing (at size 7) when I was 12. But then I believed at the time that size 7 was equivalent to a 40, and nowadays I find a 41 more comfortable whether they are labelled 7, 7½ or 8, so it's possible my feet have grown another half size at some point - maybe when I was pregnant?

My mum wore size 5 until she was over 30 because her mum had always insisted she took size 5 - when she finally got measured after having me, she was a 7! She had horrible bunions later in life.

HideyHoe · 28/12/2022 10:21

Feet size does change with big weight loss or gain, age and pregnancy.

HideyHoe · 28/12/2022 10:21

And if you end up needing insoles you might find you upsize as well.

SpinningFloppa · 28/12/2022 10:27

My feet are huge no way are they in proportion to my height I’m 5ft 4 with size 8 feet! I struggle to find shoes. Dd is 11 and also size 8 😞

bibbif · 28/12/2022 10:28

Mine stopped around 14 but did get a bit wider.

bibbif · 28/12/2022 10:30

@SpinningFloppa I'm the opposite, 5ft 10 & size 5.5/6.

WhiskeyStones · 28/12/2022 10:30

My daughter was a size 5 in year 5 too. She’s 14, in year 9 now and is a size 6 so they’ve slowed or possibly stopped growing. She’s been a 6 for about 2 years.

Meredusoleil · 28/12/2022 10:38

My dd2 is a size 5.5/6 and is in Year 6. She is not yet 11 years old and wears age 13 years clothes. She is super tall, 5ft 4; dh is 6ft 3, so that's where she gets it from!

I was told her feet would stop growing after her period starts. But the later the better for that imho!

Dd1 is 14 years old and wears a size 6. She is only 5ft 6 though and I think is slowing down now.

I was a size 6 for many years, since secondary school. After dd1 was born and I developed oedema, my feet expanded to a 6.5/7 and haven't gone down since!

RosesAndHellebores · 10/06/2023 15:08

I think dd was about a 2.5/3 in Yr 5. She's a 3.5/4 now. 5'4"

I recall being 1.5 when I went to high school at 11. I was a 4.5/5 by 20ish. 5'7".

Giving this a different spin op. I have always wanted bigger feet - I think it helps make the legs look thinner Grin

GettingStuffed · 10/06/2023 18:34

Mine stopped growing when I was 26, at a 4 1/2 they went up half a size with each pregnancy.im.noe a 6

jajajajaja · 10/06/2023 20:02

Feet grow early and stop growing early. Don't panic.

RhosynBach · 10/06/2023 20:03

Mine stopped when my periods started so around 11. I’m pretty sure I’ve been a size 5.5 since around then
