Starting a new thread for the new year. I really must do better. Pretty sure I am in need of nothing after my 2022 spending spree.

Ironically I think this board sets me off a bit.

I’m better with a blanket no spend but how dull. Still thinking about my ‘rules’, eg set a budget or an item limit.

I need to avoid the sales as many mistakes happen there.

All welcome who want to cut down for environmental or ethical or financial reasons, or simply the satisfaction of buying second hand, or the ease of getting dressed when you have less stuff.

I can recommend Lauren Bravo’s book How To Break Up With Fast Fashion.

Its a bit like eating meat, if we all collectively did it a bit less, the world would be a better place.

@verdantverdure, my gloves, scarves and hats are still very much in use. Not sure when I will dare to wash them and put them away. Risked a walk without them a couple of days ago starting out in bright sunshine, half way through we got hailed on!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 16/04/2023 18:16

The sniff of warm weather has sent me a little loopy and I've ordered a maxi skirt and some dresses, and a knee length denim skirt from Vinted. Spent £30 so not going to break the bank but I still probably don't need these things :/

Whathappenedto · 18/04/2023 15:16

😥declaring...
Three pairs of sandals, two of which are unsuitable and will be returned, and then another late night purchase of some lightweight DM sandals that I have been wanting for years: £150
I 'need' some summer shoes that are a bit smarter than my battered birkenstocks, so these are justified- a chunky pair to go with flowery dresses and jeans, and a more traditional, pretty flat pair of sandals for when I want to channel a 70s vibe (a lot in the summer!) or look a bit smarter.

A slip dress and a set of PJs, and a mug and some rollerball oils from the Cath Kidston sale : £80

Urrrggghhh I am annoyed with myself. I really don't have disposable income at the moment, but I am going through a time of stress and uncertainty in my life and shopping makes me feel good. I don't need any of the CK stuff. I just want it because it's nice. The slip dress will look good with the DM sandals.

I am now going to make a much more serious effort for no-buy til the end of June. I need to find something else that scratches the shopping itch. Too much time at work with nothing meaningful to do- I might just take up smoking again to get me away from a computer😅

TheOGCCL · 18/04/2023 18:31

I’m back on no spend on clothes until the end of August.

I can buy one pair of sandals and one pair of jeans, must have been seen in a shop irl, that’s it.

Well done, I'm joining you on the clothes, I've nearly done a whole month!

moimichme · 18/04/2023 19:35

This past weekend I bought a lovely denim jacket (new rather than secondhand) with giant pockets that my phone can fit into without falling out! Very pleased with it. Spent a lot more than I would've at the charity shop, of course, but this seems like 'the one' and I don't need/want anything else (for the moment).

Ellewoods20 · 18/04/2023 20:07

I’m on a no buy until July. The only thing I can buy is a new bag. Unfortunately, I didn’t buy the bag I previously mentioned and it’s no longer available 😔

IndianSummer78 · 18/04/2023 23:30

Today I bought two summer outfits. My first purchase of April, pleased I've lasted this long and only spent £51

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 19/04/2023 20:56

I bought M &S wide leg jeans £35 they are really flattering and a MInt velvet jumper for £15 from a dress agency I still have £30 left from £80 I got for my birthday, I need two summer t shirts or tops, I got my birkenstocks re soled too.
I am allowing myself 12 items this year ( not including replacement underwear, tights socks etc 1 in 1 out rule or if something gets ruined beyond repair) have got 3 items so far I will need another jumper next winter and a warm but smart coat

IndianSummer78 · 20/04/2023 03:20

I've got another 2 pairs of jeans, a scarf, 3 t shirts and a cardigan coming. I've been planning this purchase for a while but have been sitting on my hands for a bit and I also whittled my wishlist down by 2/3 so I'm doing better than I was

AnnieSnap · 20/04/2023 11:43

I bought two vest tops from Boden (having returned the previous one because it wasn’t a good fit). It’s a sale and I would have ordered much more in the past. Also a pair of Pyjamas from M&S. In the past, I would never have just bought one and now I’m not sure why 🤷‍♀️

So although I have purchased a few small things, this thread and abstaining for a few months months has changed my attitude to buying clothes. I have become far more thoughtful and sensible about what I buy. Thank you @TheOGCCL 🙂

NeedWineNow · 20/04/2023 15:27

Failed miserably over the last week or so but back on it again now.

Must. Be. Strong.

FirstTimeMum072022 · 20/04/2023 19:13

Declaring £7 on a shirt from Sainsbury's it was unplanned and tbh only brought because I went into Sainsbury's on my lunch hour not tried it on yet might go back only £7 but not many only £7s for something decent.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 20/04/2023 19:15

I'm really not loving the dresses I got of Vinted, well one I really like. Two look ok on, and one doesn't fit. I've some hen do's and parties coming up so I think they will do for those.

FirstTimeMum072022 · 20/04/2023 19:49

I've had the opportunity to go over my declared spending and try and figure out if I've brought anything I've not declared. So far 16 weeks into the year on clothing I've spent £316.50 - perhaps a little more - I've only spent £11 which alas I won't wear, I lost my receipt and couldn't be bothered to try and return for a swap.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/04/2023 20:18

I bought a kimono in the All Saints sale, so not cheap but not the £££ they usually are. I've wanted one for a long time, so am considering it a good purchase, although not a necessary one.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/04/2023 20:20

Oh and a loose vest top to wear under it, but that was only £6 from Sainsbury's.

Icanneverthinkofausername · 20/04/2023 22:18

I fell off the wagon today, 2 new pairs of jeans and 2 white t-shirts. But very much needed and were on my "to buy" list (although I was only meant to get one of each )

Zipps · 20/04/2023 22:23

Off shopping at the weekend to replace a long sleeve t-shirt that I wore to death and has now got a hole in it. Also need some new make-up because mine is well out of date and I retired recently and received vouchers so it will be a gift really.
Hopefully I won't be too tempted by other nice things but I'm not doing no buy, just low buy so if I see something that's perfect for me and will get worn a lot I'm buying.

IndianSummer78 · 23/04/2023 00:39

Bought some more things I didn't need just because they were pretty. Trying to not buy anything else for April now except food

Netcam · 23/04/2023 09:05

It's 23rd April. Last clothing purchase was 23rd March. I've done a month!

xmaslurgy · 23/04/2023 09:08

I'm going for NO MORE MAY!

Zipps · 23/04/2023 09:40

Spent my vouchers on make up and new brushes and I am going to look after these ones and wash them every week without fail.
Also bought my long sleeved top replacement and a t-shirt that I couldn't resist. Never mind. Just want the weather to warm up so I can wear it.

LoobyDop · 23/04/2023 13:09

I failed and bought a blazer. Blazers and jumpsuits are definitely my weak points. It’s really nice, though- warm, peachy pink, slouchy double breasted cut and looks brilliant with both jeans and smarter work trousers.

LolaSmiles · 23/04/2023 14:24

I'm looking for a nice and affordable linen midi skirt, preferably A line with pockets, or a linen jumpsuit/dunagrees that are more slouchy and less ground force (not the Lucy and Yak style if that makes sense)

Not Perfect Linen have some really nice ones but they're a bit more than I wanted to spend and they're EU, which is a pain post brexit if it needs returning.

Can anyone suggest where I might be able to get a slow fashion items like this please?
