Can you recommend a product to keep curls and waves in very straight hair!?

Hello!

I have fairly straight, shoulder-length hair but really love the kind of tousled wave look. I've treated myself to a beachwaver for Christmas and wondered if there are any products you use that might help keep a curl or wave in once I've used it? I get a bit confused about whether to put product on before curling, or after, or both!? Are mousses/serums/ sprays better etc??

I'd be really grateful for any product recommendations!

No recommendations OP, sorry, following for similar issues with straight hair never staying put!

Haha! Glad it's not just me! Hopefully someone will come along with some suggestions soon.

I'd love some recommendations too, difficult to hold a curl in my poker straight hair!

chary · 23/12/2022 13:10

I have naturally wavy hard (that's very hard to keep straight). If I want it very curly though I use smaller hair sections, lots of hairspray before heat & after & a high heat setting.

If you plait it wet would it fall out?

KirstenBlest · 23/12/2022 19:10

A perm?

Mindfullisa · 23/12/2022 21:51

I think I'd consider trying a perm or body wave , I'm not sure hairdressers are experienced or trained to do it in current times though, I'd love to know if anyone has had one I recent times.

Unwashed hair will hold the curl better than freshly washed.

A perm?

I have poker straight hair and am seriously considering a perm done with really big perm rods .

Autumnatlast · 26/12/2022 10:20

Thanks for all the comments. I'm not sure I would want a perm as I don't always wear it curly and like to have the flexibility.

My hair does hold a kink if I plait it when wet but it doesn't look curly if you know what I mean.

I'm just looking for something with strong hold but that looks fairly natural/not crispy I suppose - if such a product exists!?

The trick that works best for me is to dry it and then twist it up into a loose bun on to of my head and leave it there for a couple of hours. That leaves a wave that lasts longer than any tool for far less effort. I’ve got very long hair though, it wouldn’t work if it isn’t long enough to twist around several times.

Autumnatlast · 26/12/2022 14:48

That's a good idea but my hair is only shoulder length. I agree, when it's longer you have more options!

@Autumnatlast ,
Take the top section of hair and make a loose twisted bun with it. Leave it like that until your hair is completely dry then let your hair down

Autumnatlast · 27/12/2022 16:00

@MerryChristmasToYou Thanks - I'll give it a try!
