Botox has not worked at all - do I go back?

Facefail · 22/12/2022 19:49

I had botox in my 11 lines and laughter lines. The laughter lines have worked but the 11 lines still have full movement exactly as they did before. So botox has had zero effect there. Is it worth trying again?

How long ago? Usually takes 7-10 days for full effect

Purplecatshopaholic · 22/12/2022 19:51

How long has it been since you got it done? Can take a week or even longer to really kick in. At my place, you get a follow up appointment after a fortnight if you feel you need a bit more put in.

Facefail · 22/12/2022 19:55

Two weeks!

There is meant to be a two week follow up but I have not been offered an appt and I guess it will be after Xmas now. I'll call tomorrow.

I didn't realise it was possible for the botox to have no effect whatsoever!

It doesn't work on me.

It did the first couple of times but the 3rd was only partially successful even with a top up and the 4th had no effect at all.

That's depressing. My 11 lines have actually become 111 lines and are well on their way to becoming 1111 lines. I was really hoping to at least arrest this!

Did they explain why it did not work?

Call them back and ask for your top up. They always 'under' rather than over inject. They will top you up for free. Don't leave it longer though.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/12/2022 21:13

Mine never took on my forehead, I went back for a top up and even though it felt frozen, the lines still appeared. I didn’t like the feeling of the freeze so I don’t want to have enough to try to make the lines go. My eyes and 11s took though. I think sometimes your muscle just doesn’t respond as readily.

Igglepiggleslittletoe · 22/12/2022 21:21

It can take up to three weeks for it to work the first few times. If it is not working on certain areas after that it could be because too much was focused on another area but for the first time definitely go back for your 2-3 week top up. Always go for your top up in fact but definitely you need your top up now.

FunnyCradock · 22/12/2022 22:35

Have your review & top up. If there’s no improvement you could try a different brand before you give up entirely. Some people don’t respond as well to Allergan Botox (best known brand) because it contains more proteins & some people develop antibodies to the proteins so it stops being effective.

Try Bocouture or Azzalure as an alternative. Still botulinum toxin type A but different brands. Azzalure has the reputation of being the strongest.

Ikeameatballs · 22/12/2022 22:39

You can develop antibodies which reduce it’s effectiveness over time.

Sweetlikechocolate6 · 22/12/2022 22:50

My first botox on my forehead was amazing and worked so well stupidly I went to a less well reviewed place for my second lot and it’s utterly shite . I didn’t have particularly bad forehand lines but it’s made very little difference at all and the feeling with this second time is totally different to the first practitioner. I would definitely go back

I’ve tried azzalure and boaccature and neither work, which is a shame because where I live they’re a lot cheaper and easier to access. Only Allergan Botox works.
Which type did you have op?

Cornelious · 22/12/2022 22:56

Definitely call tomorrow and ask for a top up. When I had mine done at my review they basically topped up all areas. The second spot was made at the first.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 23/12/2022 06:05

I would also say that depending on how deep your 11s are, you won't always eradicate them completely. I still have movement in mine, they only go away totally if I'm religious about having them done every 3 months, which isn't always financially possible!

Shitfather · 23/12/2022 09:30

Could be because of the strength of the muscles in that area. Are they deep lines?

Facefail · 23/12/2022 10:29

Which type did you have op?

Gosh I don't know. She probably did say but it wouldn't have meant anything to me. I didn't realise there are different types.

They are deep lines I have yes. I was hoping to stop them getting worse and to stop the fourth emerging line becoming static, and maybe to soften them a bit too.

Will phone now.

Closed till the New Year!

fatsinglereadytomingle · 23/12/2022 11:19

Can you email, leave a message, contact via social media just to make them aware of your issue so they can pick it up when they're back after the new year so that you have contacted them within the 2 weeks.
There's lots of things that can effect how well Botox works you might just be one of the ones that it won't work for - frustratingly

Mxflamingnoravera · 23/12/2022 11:21

It can be redone up to four weeks after the initial administration. Contact your practitioner and tell them you want a follow up.

StealingYourWiFi · 23/12/2022 11:23

It might kick in still. I have super strong facial muscles and require a lot of Botox (85 units in 3 areas to be precise) my bunny lines I absolutely cannot get rid of though.

purpledalmation · 23/12/2022 11:39

Yes, I've gone back and had it redone. However my laughter lines around the eyes never took regardless.

Facefail · 23/12/2022 16:06

Thanks, I ended up booking a new appt and having to pay a deposit, as there was no way to book a review/ follow up online. I've emailed them to explain what I have done and hope I will not be charged as a new appt and get my deposit back!

Very dispirited that Botox does not always work. I really thought it would!

OP posts:
DocMarteens · 23/12/2022 16:19

It's not worked because your untreated forehead is still causing the movement.

Go back and pay for another area when you are going back for a review

God, so does that mean to get my 11 lines sorted I’ll have to have my forehead and 11 done? I think that is starting to get too pricey for me…
Also, should they have told me at the time. It’s a bit annoying to think I’ve wasted money on getting something done that would never have worked?

Are you an aesthetics practitioner yourself?

OP posts:
Beachlovingirl · 23/12/2022 21:08

after the Botox was administered were you told to do a lot of frowning to work it into the muscle?

I am told to do this and one time I forgot and the Botox didn’t work as well that time.

agree with everyone else though they always give less at first and at the top up will correct that for free.

botox won’t be able to get rid of any lines that are already there when you’re not frowning though you may need filler to smooth that out.

Hope the follow up appointment goes well when you do get it. It is strange you didn’t have to set up the follow up after your initial appointment as usually on exit, I am asked to book the follow up. (They don’t let me leave until it’s booked in!) Potentially you may need to go to someone else because it all sounds a bit odd.
