I need some mascara and eyeshadow that doesn't irritate

Happy to spend as long as it doesn't make eyes become itchy red mess

Hi there! Green people mascara works for me. You basically need to avoid all mascara with elongating effect, because for the elongation, all kinds of stuff is added, from petrochemicals to moss. Generally looking for eco or green makeup helped me. But I just had itchiness, never a very strong reaction, so you might need to look further into ingredients and study those in detail

I have severe reaction to most eye make up to the point my face blows up like a puffer fish

clinique eyeshadow and eyeliner - which is fine but I have to make sure it’s taken off a much as possible before bed
bare minerals mascara is excellent
I want to try bare minerals eye make but haven’t yet

Maybelline collosal mascara is good for my sensitive eyes and is removed by warm water and a wash cloth.

Butterflies eyecare sells makeup which is free from most of the allergenic culprits such as nickel and cobalt. (I'm allergic to both and can't wear any other eyeshadow at all). I also find Clinique waterproof mascara good and take care not to get any on my lids.

Inca22 · 24/12/2022 23:01

@CSJ113 thank you for sharing this! I'm massively allergic to zinc and had no idea that it can be found in eyeshadow. I've been racking my brains as to why my eyes have reacted so badly!

Clarins in the blue metallic casing.

Eyeshadow - yet to find!

Dior mascara is the only thing thats okay on my very sensitive eyes. Anything that flakes or rubs off or tubes is no good on me as i have watery eyes and it just goes straight in. I went on a mission to find some "green" or low tox mascara and it was some of the worst of the lot. I think it might be the beeswax or whatever most of them use.
I also have found that im allergic to bismuth and a lot of sparkly eye powders use it, so I stick to creams (eye caviar sticks are great) and gel eyeliner

Bobbi Brown is working for me. I got it in my ASOS advent calendar. I had been using budget for a while and I found that they flake and make my eyes red and weepy.

Mindfullisa · 25/12/2022 07:52

I've used the bobbi brown eyeshadow cream sticks, it's caused me no issues with sensitivity and now trying the laura mercier cream eyeshadow sticks and I'm tolerating fine too, maybe worth having a mua apply for you if your in store to put it to the test

Bare Minerals eyeshadow and Clinique tubing mascara. Tubing mascaras are a game changer as they don't flake or shed fibres.

Vohgue · 26/12/2022 13:35

Just want to add that clinique is the worst for my sensitive eyes (and tubing generally bad)

cozycat1 · 26/12/2022 15:47

Agree with above poster, Clinque eye stuff is so bad for my eyes too. I found Estee Lauder double wear mascara and eye penicls OK. Haven't tried many others so watching with interest.
