Kipling backpack - worth it?

I use backpacks rather than over the shoulder handbags. Kipling always pops up in searches but never bought one as didn't understand the expense when they just look like fairly standard backpacks.

Can anyone who has got one explain the benefits / appeal?

Is it worth buying one? Are there any other decent backpacks? I prefer practicality over style

I’ve got a couple of Kipling handbags and I think if you can get one in the sale then you’d be getting a bargain. The material and quality of the features is very good.

I bought my Kipling bag 11 years ago. It has been going strong every since and other than assume slight discoloration on white bits shows no signs of wear. You have to really really love them though because they're so indestructible you won't have an excuse to replace it 😂

I have some of their bags and they are great quality.

I prefer my Roka backpacks though, they are also rainproof and seem similarly great quality, one of mine has been in daily use for a year now and is still perfect.

Look out for a second hand one or try eBay to see what you think before you buy. I have. Second hand one it's a good bag but nothing special tbh

I only buy Kipling bags now, love them. So lightweight, good quality & strong. Lots of designs & colour. I would recommend.

Was going to suggest this too. There are several on Vinted at the moment.
I've not had a backpack but several other bags and think they're great but overpriced. I only buy in sales or 'almost new' second hand.

Bought mine 17 years ago and it’s the only one that’s travelled the world with me. The fabric is light but string, and I love all the different compartments. I absolutely love it. Washes well in the washing machine and looks as good as new all these years later with plenty of life left. I don’t think I’ll ever need to buy another one. Bought mine in the sale.

You’ll be fine with a nearly new second hand one or wait until after Xmas when a few news ones may pop on eBay.

WandaWonder · 18/12/2022 08:40

I love them

Marmitepot · 18/12/2022 08:40

I like Roka too

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/12/2022 08:43

I couldn’t bring myself to pay full price but found one in TK Maxx. It’s the best backpack I’ve ever had and I can easily do a two night stay with it. However, because it was a bargain it’s a colour that I don’t like and I therefore don’t use it much. I’d love a black one.

FeltCarrot · 18/12/2022 08:44

I bought the dc Kipling rucksacks when they were at primary school. They are 25 & 22 now and we had used them as our cabin bags on many a holiday. Still going strong. My only gripe is that they have too many compartments so I have to be super organised and remember which pocket has passports/ head phones/ sweets etc!

Candleabra · 18/12/2022 08:46

I think they’re great. They’re so durable, and I love that all the zips are really sturdy and they have loads of pockets. I have a few Kipling bags, some from over 20 years ago and they’re still going strong.

moonfacebaby · 18/12/2022 08:46

I love my Roka too

user2859453 · 18/12/2022 08:46

I have one, I bought it in one of the Amazon deals and have had it years I use it for walking and holidays

Mol1628 · 18/12/2022 08:51

I love my Kipling bags. Fancied a change though when I needed a new work bag and got a ROKA which is amazing as well.

ChubbyBroccoli · 18/12/2022 08:52

Definitely try eBay, TKMaxx or Kipling sale if you are not sure - they are expensive at full price, but great quality, strong, lightweight and washable.

MumUndone · 18/12/2022 09:16

I have the Kipling firefly up and I love it.

BarbaraofSeville · 18/12/2022 09:47

I think the Kipling full price is a red herring, there's always a sale. I like their bags and have a few of the cross body ones in different sizes.

I've just spent a bit of time choosing a new backpack. I wanted a Kanken one but decided they were too basic for the money, looked at Roku, wasn't sure. I also looked at Doughnut and Sandqvist, which I spotted in John Lewis and settled on a Doughnut Macaroon because I wanted one with the top handles, not sure why tbh.

BarbaraofSeville · 18/12/2022 09:49

If you're near an outlet mall, they often have a Kipling shop, so good to go have look and see the size/shape/pockets, which can be hard to work out online.
