Just that?

Worth the money? Break in period bearable and worth it?

Yes. I've got the soft ones and no breaking in at all. Bloody love them.

Mynoodlesareoodles · 14/12/2022 15:04

I wore them in the 90s and remember them being so comfortable. The ones i have now haven't properly broken in despite wearing them for ages. They're heavy, cold and let in water at the smallest hint of rain. I'm giving up on them.

mayaknew · 14/12/2022 15:07

Absolutely yes. Just be prepared for the break in! Thick socks and plasters

mumonthehill · 14/12/2022 15:09

I have the national gallery DM’s and they took a bit of breaking in and I bought the DM balm which really helped. I love mine. So comfortable now.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 14/12/2022 15:09

Another vote for solovair.

artishard · 14/12/2022 15:10

I found mine painful at first but silicone heel protectors were a game changer. You can pick them up cheaply enough on Amazon!

Soproudoflionesses · 14/12/2022 15:24

Had mine since May and still breaking then...definitely a labour of love but worth it - always get lovely comments on them!

washingmachineheart · 14/12/2022 15:31

I've had a pair of their Polley Mary Janes for about 10 years and despite wearing them at least once a week they look as good as new! Echo PPs on the need for tights/socks while you're breaking them in but they're well worth it.

LazyDoll · 14/12/2022 16:21

I have the (faux) fur lined Chelsea boot style in black and brown and LIVE in them and have done for the last 2 winters. So so comfy. And warm! And grippy so no slipping in the ice!

LazyDoll · 14/12/2022 16:22

PS mine needed no breaking in. Even wear them with bare feet sporadically.

creamcheeseandlox · 14/12/2022 16:30

I've got the soft pascal leather ones and need no breaking in. I've just bought my daughter a pair for Xmas.

bob1985 · 14/12/2022 17:39

Thanks all!

TimeToFlyNow · 14/12/2022 17:59

Most of mine are pascal and didn't need breaking in

amylou8 · 14/12/2022 18:03

I love mine. They always hurt across the bridge of my foot to start with. Taking out the insoles for a while really helps break them in.

JustCakeInDrag · 14/12/2022 18:15

No, but only because I'd rather have Solovairs.

schoolsoutforever · 14/12/2022 18:22

Yes, definitely. I bought the soft leather ones recently. I honestly can say they are money well spent. Look lovely, no breaking, not too clumpy. So comfy. I love them!

Mysterian · 14/12/2022 18:27

No.
Here's a video of a guy who cuts boots in half to review them and their construction. He compares DMs with Solovairs.
Too Long Didn't Watch: Dr Martens are "garbage". Cheaply made and although good at first in the long run they're very bad. Solovairs are much better and cheaper.

faffadoodledo · 14/12/2022 18:55

I echo the love for Solovairs. They used to make the DM soles at their Northampton factory before DM shipped manufacture to China. Now they just make their own which they've been doing for donkey's years. They're a beautiful fit and need no wearing in. Ok they don't do the wild colours like DM. But they are classy

TimeToFlyNow · 14/12/2022 19:41

Well looking at the solovairs and they aren't any cheaper. I prefer the limited edition dms or patterned ones anyway

JustCakeInDrag · 14/12/2022 19:44

No-one claimed they were cheaper. They are better quality and British-made, but as a pp said they do come in fewer colours and designs.

JustCakeInDrag · 14/12/2022 19:45

Ah sorry, someone did claim they are cheaper. They are not IME.

KirstenBlest · 14/12/2022 19:46

@TimeToFlyNow , then that's fine.
I had the DM Floras and Emmelines. Both looked lovely, but the fit wasn't quite right as I needed a half size. I rarely wore the Floras because of the poor fit, and the Emmelines looked like they'd wear out in no time. I sold them and all my other DMs and got Solovair dealer boots and Toast Jade boots. I'm happy.

KirstenBlest · 14/12/2022 19:48

I got mine on that well known auction site, for a fraction of what they cost new.

BelenaConhamHarter · 14/12/2022 19:49

Yes - 100% Two weeks of trouble for a decade of comfy.

PumpkinGhoul · 14/12/2022 19:49

Yes worth it
