Hello, I want to buy my soon to be SILs a Christmas gift. They are both in their 40s with family and beautiful houses. Budget of £30 ... any suggestions?

If you're looking cashmere yet TurtleDoves - they recycle cashmere and make lovely new products: www.turtle-doves.co.uk/collections/cashmere-for-gents/gents?sort_by=best-selling

How very luxurious! A lovely gift!
Do you have to handwash them though?

79abbot · 13/12/2022 07:24

Yes, Hand Wash only.

NellNorth · 13/12/2022 07:30

I have 4 kids and a beautiful house (?), and my sis bought me cashmere socks, and I was perplexed! Hand wash socks- who has time for that? They were white company, and very soft and lovely, but utterly impractical.

I wash mine in the machine with my wool and cashmere jumpers. Wool wash, cool cycle.

Anewhoo · 13/12/2022 07:34

I put mine on a wool cycle. They’re fine, no issues so far. Use wool detergent and no softener.

I would smile and say thank you for socks of course, even the nicest one, but inside I'd be going...socks????

CanYouFeelMyHeart · 13/12/2022 07:37

Oops pressed send too soon! The gloves are muuuuuuch nicer.

Cashmere socks are just the best for keeping your feet warm, especially at night. I have a couple of pairs & they've really come into their own on these chilly nights. I bought mine from the BrandAlley sale a couple of years ago and I'm definitely going to buy some more this year.

ShirleyPhallus · 13/12/2022 08:05

I have the white company ones and they feel almost too soft and quite baggy? It’s a very bizarre feeling and not one that’s very nice!

RosettaStormer · 13/12/2022 08:22

I got some from M and S a few years ago. They are great at night, as I suffer from cold feet.

I just LOVE cashmere as it's so soft against the skin, and very warm. My family know if they give me Cashmere socks they can't go wrong - those or oversize cashmere scarf or cashmere wrist warmers. 🌹

I have had a couple of pairs of cashmere bedsocks (one was White Company) and loved them - on at night after a bath so only padded around a little in them, sheepskin slippers too … both had holes after a few months wear. I’ve now got £2 fluffy socks from Primark and do you know what … I prefer them, they’re warmer and snugger. The cashmere socks are a lovely gift but I’d worry they won’t last!

Niftythrifter · 13/12/2022 19:11

Try TK Maxx. I think I saw some in my local branch for under £30 at the weekend

SnowyPheasants · 13/12/2022 19:29

I love how someone says they dont have time to wash little cashmere socks when they likely spend 9 hours a day on MN, lol.

User57713 · 13/12/2022 19:37

I have the White Company cashmere bedsocks but in navy blue rather than white. I put them on when I'm in my pyjamas at the end of the day so I'm not wearing them for long and they don't need washed every time.

No they're not massively practical but they're a lovely treat and I'd be happy to receive a pair for Christmas

Same - in fact mine lasted less than two weeks. I think that they are strictly for wearing in bed so I didn't feel I could return them as I was wearing them around the house. They are beyond repair as well.

I've had the white company cashmere socks a couple of times - each year the quality was worse. As another poster said, they got quite baggy and loose soon. I am now eyeing a lovely green Brora ones.
