What colour nails?

Looking for some quick help please.

Just taken a dress delivery this morning and decided on this one for Christmas night out.

I've left it too late to get booked in for gel nails so will have to just buy nail polish and paint them.

What colour would you go for? I don't want to have anything too dark - won't be neat enough with my shaky handsGrinGrin

Black would've been my first choice but picking up one of the brighter colours the pink/blue could also work.

Thank you. I did wonder about black, but not sure I can paint them neatly enough!! And one of them is a bit short, as it broke :(. If I'd made an appointment to get them done, I would have got gel tips (whatever they are, but suggested by my teenagerSmile)

Purple

Classic red

I would go for silver or gold.

Classic red

Would absolutely go with red if it was a pure black dress, but all the colours are confusing me Smile

Purple

Now trialling some purple, which I have in the house, but don't think it's dark enough.

I'd go with a dark grey glitter. Easy to paint without looking tatty. Rommel have a good one.

Not sure I'd go with a Rommel one for ethical reasons. Might look for a Rimmel one though 😁

If you’re not neat, a pale metallic is most forgiving.

Not sure if either of those would work with the rainbow-ish sequins. But may trial both 😊. Going to have a different colour on each finger at this rate 😊

See, this is my issue. Can I do it neat enough?

@SpeedyMackechnie you will be able to do a pale colour neatly. Not too much polish on the brush, middle stroke, one either side, then a middle again if needed. Don’t go over and over.
If tiny spill over use a nail at the edge, then wipe on a tissue.
Let one hand totally dry before you do the other.
Allow at least an hour. If you were travelling to a salon you’d need this time, so take the same time.
I wouldn’t do a base coat with a pale colour, but do 2 coats of colour, then seal it with clear.

I would be worried a dark colour with the dress might look abit too dark overall! I'd go with a nude colour or pale metallic as others have said. I find the trick to doing your mails yourself is Seche Vite top coat! And most messy bits that get on skin will peel off in the shower.

SpeedyMackechnie · 12/12/2022 13:38

Thank you all, for very useful advice!! I do sometimes paint my own nails, and would agree that a paler colour of FAR more forgiving😊

If you worry about it being neat get some orange sticks/tooth picks/pointy cotton buds and have a wee dish of nail polish remover to tidy up the edges.
