Eczema/dermatitis sufferers - what makeup do you wear?

I have such sensitive skin, and get huge angry flare ups on my face regularly. I use cetraben daily on my face and it keeps it under control as long as I don't wear makeup, if I wear makeup for an occasion then I pay for it for 2/3 days afterwards with red angry skin, sore eyes etc. I wore makeup out for my birthday last night and today have just felt so shit with my red blotchy face and my red itchy swollen eyelids.

There's got to be some makeup out there for those of us who suffer with skin conditions, can anyone recommend any?

I have similar skin and this is very very gentle

www.amazon.co.uk/Dr-Hauschka/b/ref=bl_dp_s_mw_18973763031?ie=UTF8&node=18973763031&field-lbr_brands_browse-bin=Dr.Hauschka

It is ethical, cruelty free and biodynamic

I just wash using warm water
i am extremely careful with make up
especially around my eyes
i go have accupunture when I have a flare up

My son has the same and giving up dairy and having accupunture cleared it after a bad flare up

Bareminerals complexion rescue. It’s a little heavier than a tinted moisturiser but still feels gentle on the skin. Applied with a clean brush or beauty blender.

I try to avoid things like eyeshadow as it makes my eyes itchy.

Could you go to a department store and get some samples? It was a bit trial and error until I found the products that worked for me.

Google says wearing a primer under a tinted moisturiser should help.
La Roche Posay do a tinted moisturiser. RMS beauty is a “clean” brand that uses natural ingredients like coconut oil.

What make up are you currently using? What do you know you are allergic to?

Boots No7 Essentially Natural foundation, mixed with a little bit of my regular moisturiser (Clinique). I can't use their concealer though.

I've tried other more expensive brands that are supposed to be for sensitive skin (eg Clinique) but they all make my skin itch.

I have extremely sensitive skin. Once had a horrible break out on my arms when I used Johnson's baby lotion. Can't use anything from Body Shop.Have eczema and dermatitis breakouts. I use the Nivea tinted moisturiser with a primer underneath - the L'Oreal Infallible one. It's trial & error. Doesn't always have to be a fortune. Had a Chanel mascara recently and it killed my eyes.

I use No7 essentially natural foundation, I have a Clinique one too and neither of them irritate my eczema. Which shade do you use in the No7? It is good for the price isn't it? What other make up do you use just out of interest?

Happyhappyeveryday · 12/12/2022 21:11

Erborian.

I use lancome teint idole and teint renergie. Very moisturising. I used to get lancome teint vissionnaire when my skin was very red. It made me look more normal for work. I wore it every day. It is not readily in uk anymore but can be got online in amazon or notino.

Hi, I wondered how you got on in the end? Did you find anything? I have this same issue and I cannot find anything! I'm waiting for patch testing but it's going to be months and I can't stand never wearing any make up!

Kissedbyfire1 · 21/02/2023 07:28

Following with interest.

sleeplessinsouthhampton · 21/02/2023 07:31

No7 is the only foundation I can use - i use lift n luminate as is quite rich so doesn't dry my skin which is what triggers stuff off- have used other no7 and they been ok

cheaper stuff wrecked me - clinique easily the worst one -

Nosleepclub13 · 21/02/2023 10:29

I've currently got both number 7 and a body shop tinted moisturiser, and wearing one on each eye to see if it reacts 😂 both different colours, good job I'm not going anywhere!

CappuccinoFace · 21/02/2023 14:22

another sensitive skin here! I'm not able to use any makeup in the eyes, I have had very bad flare ups so given up. I try to wear a bright lip instead. When my skin is at its worst, I used my all body moisturiser (Oilatum) even on face. My daily moisturiser is Nivea (refreshing day cream), and make up remover is Nivea as well. I've used them for years and if something works, I'm very hesitant to change! At the moment I am able to use on most days other products as well, but I've introduced them slowly, and if skin starts to react, go back to basics. For night cream I use Lumene Valo. Trinny vitamin c serum occasionally

Makeup-wise: Trinny London destress. Erborian skin corrector. I've recently started to use YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer but I only put full make up few times a week (as I mainly WFH so thankfully get away without makeup, just tanning drops, most days).
