Confused about work black tie dress code

Hello, could I please get your opinion on my dress for my work black tie Christmas party. I work in the technology industry. I am not from the UK and have moved here just a few years back. Somehow I never seem to get it right when it comes to style and fashion. I am an apple shape size 14 woman in my 40s. This is the only dress that I have found flattering when I have tried on but now I am having second thoughts. Is it smart enough or more suitable for a wedding? Do I go full length or midi length? I work mainly remotely so don't know any colleague well enough to ask what they are wearing. Please help!

Christmas party - yes

Wedding - no

You seem confused as to which you are going to.

Burnamer · 09/12/2022 21:43

Perfect.

Lovely.

MrsDooDaa · 09/12/2022 21:46

It's a beautiful dress!

That's a lovely dress and perfect for a black tie event - generally avoid black for weddings in the UK if you're thinking of wearing it in future!

Aah thank you Smile This is good to hear! I want to look smart and not overdressed. Ordered some tailored dresses but they are only emphasising my tummy and are not flattering on me. I love this dress but it is dressier than what I would normally wear so started having second thoughts.

Thanks for the tip. It is more like a dark aubergine colour but I get your point.
