Skin + Me

Hi ladies,

I have been using Skin + Me for about 6 months now after seeing lots about it on socials. I signed up with an offer for £3.50 & thought I’d share here for anyone else interested.

You take a short online questionnaire outlining your skin concerns (ageing, acne etc) and their Dermatology team creates a you personalised prescription with proper medical grade active ingredients which is sent to you.

People have commented on how smooth and clear my skin is and I myself can see a huge improvement to the appearance and texture of my skin since I started my plan. You get regular opportunities to feedback and for your dermatologist to make tweaks to the ingredients in your doser, I really feel like it’s like having my own virtual skincare specialist. Another major benefit for me is having my entire skincare routine in a small little “doser” instead of having to apply all the toners, serums, moisturisers etc etc, especially because I travel for work a lot.

I used the code and got the “daily doser” for £3.50 (lasts a month), instead of £24.99, and also signed up to the newsletter to get the cleanser & moisturiser free instead of £15 each. (I didn’t repurchase the cleanser & moisturiser but it was nice to use)

Here is the sign up offer code for anyone interested-

Hi Janch13,

I've just placed my fist order using your code, thanks for sharing.

Janch13 · 03/01/2023 09:42

@Iprefersummer Ahh fab, I think you will love it, please report back! :)

Hmm, interesting.

I am currently using Environ, which I am happy with but bored with. I've gone as far as I can with the level of AHA in it.

I might give it a try. Thx.

Catslovepies · 03/01/2023 09:50

I really disliked it, got contact dermatitis from it. Not nice.

Janch13 · 03/01/2023 13:23

@Catslovepies really? Did you feed back to get your dosage altered? Which ingredient do you think triggered dermatitis?

OP posts:
Janch13 · 03/01/2023 13:38

@TimeBurglar Haven't heard of that one. Skin + Me initially prescribed Tretinoin (increasingly gradually to 0.015%) but when I became pregnant they swapped this out for
Azelaic Acid (14%) which I have found just as effective. I also have
Niacinamide (4%)

Personally I really get on with it. My concerns were ageing, congestion and occasional hormonal breakouts. I rarely wear foundation now which is something I never imagined for myself (not due to spots, just due to uneven skin tone)

With the intro offer it’s very cheap to give it a go and you can easily unsubscribe if it’s not for you.

I’ve been using it since last June or July I think.

I stopped it for December as I didn’t think it was doing anything and £24.99 would have bought a Christmas present!

I’ve just started again as I really noticed a difference not using it - even though whilst using it I couldn’t tell you what it was doing.

my skin just looked dull and all my faint lines came back - I hadn’t realised they’d gone until they came back!

although - does the tret % ever get above 0.015%? I’m tempted to move to dermatica as their tret % is higher but if skin and me will increase then I’ll stick with them as I really like the doser.

Twiggywinkle13 · 03/01/2023 14:27

I’ve been using Skin+Me since it started, cannot rave about it enough!! I stopped it for the first couple of months of my pregnancy but back on it now and wow I missed it!!

Catslovepies · 03/01/2023 14:53

I complained yes and it was something in their base cream because my "prescription" was only azeleic acid and niacinimide which I've used in other brands no problem. They didn't do anything to help so I just cancelled and binned what they had sent me. Might try dermatica next.

AriettyHomily · 03/01/2023 15:07

I've just signed up for dermatica but I've also now looked at primark versions. I've got 10% niacinamide, 0.5% retinol and 10% vit c for less than £3 a bottle.

My 'prescription' has azaleic acid and a tiny amount of tret.

Is the tret worth £20 / month when I can get everything else in primark?

WaxingGibbon · 03/01/2023 15:18

Depending on what your individual skin concerns are, yes in my view tret is definitely worth it - it's much stronger than the retinol you get in primark

TimeBurglar · 04/01/2023 14:13

Thx, I think I may give it a go. Environ is a South African organic skincare brand. My skin is definitely better for using it. However, I need to buy 2 separate moisturisers and mix them and it costs £120 a go. They last about 4 months. They have peptides in them and vitamin A which I believe is retinoid.

I like it, but I also do think it has made my cheeks a bit red.

TimeBurglar · 04/01/2023 14:31

Oh, I've done it. I've signed up.
Thx

Ponks · 04/01/2023 14:40

@DrWhoNowww if you contact them and ask for the tret % to be reviewed they will increase it. I've been using Skin +Me for nearly a year and after the first few months asked them to increase the tret, it was increased to 0.027% which I think is still very low. I'm in two minds about cancelling or trying Dermatica instead.

Janch13 · 04/01/2023 17:26

@TimeBurglar Let us know what you think of it!

Si1ver · 04/01/2023 17:39

I got dermititis from it as well. Although I reported it to the consultant I didn't feel great about their response, specifically it didn't feel like they had fully read my email and so I cancelled it. They were quite pushy about getting me to start up again including several phone calls.

It's taken me two months to sort it the issues it's caused with my skin.

TimeBurglar · 07/01/2023 15:24

OK, so I've got my set with the Cleanser, treatment and moisturiser.

I have some Qs that I should direct to them, but let's see what you think too.

Mainly, what am I supposed to do with the rest of my massive stash of face care e.g. Environ Eye Cream, toner, face creams (containing Vit A/ retinol), Clarins Blue Orchid Oil, Trilogy Rosehip oil, Liquid Gold, etc. etc. Can I now not use these?

WaxingGibbon · 08/01/2023 01:34

I'm not an expert but I am a skin & me devotee and I was lucky not to have any initial unpleasant reactions to it, just a tiny bit of sensitivity each month the dose was raised.

Definitely follow their advice to start with regarding a simple pared back regime with no actives other than the tret. Although you'll need a good gentle moisturiser to go over your tret dose and your eye cream sounds like it should be fine. As your skin adjusts and gets used to it, I think you can consider re introducing your favourite products - eg I think the rose hip oil would be lovely over your skin & me dose at night - but do it gradually and take extra care each month when they put your dose up. That's what I did.

Obviously this doesn't apply to the retinol you have been using up till now, you should leave that out completely, you don't want to double up.
Having said that I got some medik8 crystal retinol for Xmas so once a week I'm swapping it for my skin & me dose to use it up and I will pause my repeat prescription to save a bit of money.

Like I say I'm no expert, so other posters may well have much better advice.

Janch13 · 08/01/2023 10:30

@TimeBurglar I had the same thing, I still use my other skincare products as when and I want, I just don’t apply my Skin + Me that evening (this also means the daily doser lasts me a bit longer.) So every 3rd or 4th night I skip the Skin + Me and use something else from my collection, except for the stuff like eye creams, moisturisers etc. You can still use these (providing the moisturiser doesn’t contain any actives?) I always use a moisturiser after my Skin + Me (apply 10 mins after), and eye cream should be fine to use in conjunction as you’re not applying the Skin + Me too close to the eyes (well, I don’t). Retinols I wouldn’t use the same night as Skin + Me. Anything with actives I would check with the Skin + Me dermatologist if it’s OK to use. Hope this helps!

Agree with everything @WaxingGibbon advised!

Shinyandnew2022 · 08/01/2023 15:09

I signed up last year but due to lack of skincare regime I haven't ever used any of it !
Do you think it will still be ok to start using it now if unopened?
Has anyone seen a marked improvement in pigmentation / age spots - mine are really depressing me !!

GertrudeBell · 08/01/2023 15:22

I tried it for a while and found it really unpleasant. It smelled bad, the doses were too much and left my skin really greasy and made it hard to put make up in. There was no improvement whatsoever in my skin (pores, pigmentation etc).

I plugged away for months - they tell you to keep at it to see the benefits - and was reprieved when I finally decided to stop.

In hindsight I’ve seen more unhappy reports than people saying it was worth it.

Janch13 · 09/01/2023 14:08

@GertrudeBell Oh wow I’m so surprised you found it greasy, I find it the opposite and always need a moisturiser after. I guess our active ingredients were very different, especially as mine was not advised to use during the daytime (due to sun light). Glad you’ve found alternative skin care products that suit you better.

OP posts:
Janch13 · 09/01/2023 14:09

@Shinyandnew2022 I would think it’s fine to use if unopened, wonder if the actives might be less effective though, as each doser has an expiry date (haven’t seen this in any other skin care products before)

Is it best to apply skin and me at night?
