Hi everyone, just debating my Christmas party outfit! Are wedge shoes/ sandals in vogue at the moment?

Not sandals... it's December?!

Do you have a pic of what you have in mind? Those wedges with corded rope around the base, open toes, strappy etc I'd say no- as they look like beachy/holiday wear. If they have a covered toe and more formal looking, then possible.

TBH- I wear what is comfortable and would have no idea what is in or not!

Thank you! I was thinking of wedge sandals really, but yes, they may look a little too much like beach wear 😳. I’ve absolutely no idea what to wear with a dress! I’m late 50’s……. I’m completely out of touch with fashion these days!

Were you wanting to wedges for more support over a regular heel?

Without having any clue on what colour/price range you are looking for, these could be blinged up with some tinsel tucked in or a clip on earring put on the toes:

Wedge sandals In December? What are you wearing?

Rarasong · 06/12/2022 21:30

Thanks everyone! I love the shoes thank you, but unfortunately I’m only a size 2!
I have lots of boots, wedge sandals, so I was hoping I could match them with a dress, Seasalt, White stuff sort of dress

I'd say wedge shoes are not really in fashion. In terms of sandals the ones linked are more on trend, pretty high but not actually such a heel as the sole is also built up. Very chunky.

Boots might work better as its fashionable to play around with different styles, eg a formal suit with trainers. Also be warmer but I guess you'll be in a hot venue not standing round outside. Our staff party gets pretty hot

Yes, time to throw the sandals in the back of the wardrobe for now! I like the idea about different styles. Yes, we will be inside. I have realised that I have no idea what is current!

I so enjoyed the thread a while ago about clothes etc., that were dated. It would be good to have a refresh of this every season, especially with Christmas coming up - and also a thread about what IS current.

OP- surely by now you need to wear what flatters your physique and not what may or may not be 'in fashion'???

I'm only slightly younger that you and wouldn't wear thread bare jeans with slashes, 4 inch stilettos or any other thing 'perceived' to be IN right now. Something IN for a 20yr old I certainly won't be copying. Do you have any boots as the other poster suggested? What is your dress like? Will it be formal or more casual???

DurdleSnore · 07/12/2022 07:16

I would say no, I haven’t seen many about this year.

I would go knee high boots probably or a classic court. Sling backs are trendy atm and always look classy.

How about a little jumper paired with a pleated skirt (bonus points for sparkle!) and boots? Jazzy earrings. I think that would look lovely on a mature lady.

If you’re into the fat face/white stuff style then go to their website and social accounts. Do they have a Xmas section? What are the models wearing? What have they put the dresses with?

Download the Instagram app i you don’t have and follow some ‘fashion over 40’ or ‘fifty and fabulous’ type accounts for inspiration to keep in touch with what’s in fashion.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I’m not bothered about being ‘IN’!! I just didn’t want to look ridiculous 😅. Sling backs would be lovely, but buying shoes is somewhat of a nightmare with size 2 feet ☹️ I do like the jumper and skirt idea, thank you.
